Frequently asked questions

Each event is different but the typical performance time for singers & vocalists is 2 x 45 minutes sets within a 2 hours period. Some acts are happy to play longer sets or additional sets. Often, breaks can be negotiated but you should be aware that the price may increase if the musicians need to be onsite for a longer period of time.

You should always check whether or not your act is prepared to play outdoors. Weather conditions such as wind, rain, or extreme temperatures can affect the performance and the instruments. If you are planning an outdoor event you should be prepared to offer a flat surface for performers as well as a cover in case of unexpected rain.

Booking singers & vocalists as early as possible increases the chance of securing their availability on your event date, particularly during busy times of the year. However, many acts also accept last minute bookings, and we have successfully arranged performances for clients with just a few hours' notice.

Most singers & vocalists are self-contained and provide their own sound equipment which is suitable for typical situations. If your event is to be held in a large venue, or you have more than 300 guests, we recommend that additional sound equipment should be used. Always ask your act about their sound system requirements. Some singers & vocalists have lighting systems, but most usually will charge extra for this or recommend a third party supplier for you to use.

The cost of hiring musicians can vary significantly depending on the type of act. The average price is currently £331. Budget-level acts may be available for as low as £25, while top-tier acts can command prices as high as £2440.

About these Singers & Vocalists

When looking for a singer for your event, it's best to think about the sort of music you want in advance. There's no point looking at classical vocalists if really you want Lady GaGa songs! The above musicians are all available for any sort of UK event. From weddings, private parties and corporate product launches to big celebrity events, all sorts of different live music options are available. All of the artists listed on this page should have audio samples for you to listen to along with photos, a biography and some ratings or testimonials from clients who have booked them in the past.

"Lucy not only played at our afternoon wedding reception but also played me down the aisle, singing Moon River beautifully. We were further honoured that Lucy sang and played our first dance and joined in singing with the band in the evening. A wonderful singer and such a lovely person"

Singer for Hire in the UK

Choosing your singer

There are a number of different factors in play when choosing the right singer for your event. Do you want your guests up and dancing or just to chat and mingle with each other whilst listening to something nice in the background? Do you want a live band to accompany your singer? Would you like a duo or do you think that a few extra musicians (trio, quartet, sextet) would add that bit of extra volume and energy to your party? These are the sort of questions that you need to be asking when choosing your performer! The most important thing is to find a singer for hire that you like and book them.

Audience

Whatever the reason for deciding to hire a live vocalist, those attending should be the primary consideration when choosing your music act. For example, family events often include a wide range of ages and musical tastes and the choice of vocalist should reflect those attending, offering a range of songs that will be familiar to everyone. It is worth examining the singer's example repertoire on their Last Minute Musicians profile to give you a good feel for their style. An event has a better chance of success if there is a selection of songs suitable for all of those present.

Corporate functions often have different requirements. It may be that they require background music during a meal or something a little livelier to end an event. Once again, the singer's repertoire will offer guidance as to whether they are the right choice for the occasion. A vocalist who performs songs from the 1950's and 60's may not be well received by a younger audience, alternatively a party singer who performs the latest pop music could struggle to hold the attention of an older group.

Venue

The venue in which the event is to be held can also influence the choice of vocalist. Singers who also play acoustic guitar are ideally suited to smaller spaces, as they need little room electronic equipment. Whilst it may be possible for the same singer to play a much larger venue, consideration should be given to any additional items, such as amplifiers and foot pedals, which may be required. Many vocalists simply use backing tracks, whilst this reduces the amount of room needed in comparison to a live band, an adequate space will still be required to allow the artist to deliver the best possible performance.

Vocalist

Take some time to listen to and compare the male or female singers you are considering. Many have videos available online, which are often accompanied by reviews from people who have booked the artist for an event themselves. It is well worth reading through the experiences of others as this is often the best guide as to how an act will perform.

Try and visualise them in your chosen venue and think about how your audience will respond to them. It may be possible to find another location in the local area where the singer is performing, and it is well worth making the effort to go and see them. If they are well received at a similar event, it is reasonable to assume they will also be successful at yours.

There is a wide range of singers available who will make yours an event to remember. Whether your chosen style is opera, country and western, or modern pop music, there is bound to be a vocalist who is perfect for your requirements on the Last Minute Musicians directory!
