"We had a fabulous wedding day and your beautiful renditions accompanying us through the day helped create a very special atmosphere. I hope you could gauge the extent of appreciation of your talents from the feedback you received on the day. We would implore anybody searching for piano accompaniment on their special day to book Hannah."
Paul and Ester's review of South Wales Pianist
Ideal for:
Classical piano players are often called upon to perform at more formal events such as wedding ceremonies, dinner functions, hotel lobbies and even church events, but they are also hired to perform for the general public in staged concerts that are sometimes held in village or town halls as well as traditional concert halls.
When booking Pianists (Classical):
One thing that all pianists will need to know in advance is if there is an instrument already situated at the venue, and how recently it has been tuned. Most pianists will also bring their own electric keyboard as a back up, but if you are looking to have your piano player perform on a grand piano that's already in situ, they will need information about it from the venue.
Many piano players will arrive in suitably smart attire, but if you would like to request your musician performs in something specific (Black-tie, for example) let them know in advance. If they are performing on an electric keyboard, make sure a suitable power source is near the performance area.
Prices for Pianists (Classical):
Most classical pianists will charge a minimum of £150, but this will depend on how far away they are located and how long you are looking to have them perform. To cut down on cost, use the 'advanced search' feature to find classical piano players near you.
About Classical Pianist's repertoire:
The bread and butter of most classical pianists will be the great classical composers - Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Debussy, Pachabel and many, many others. They will usually have a repertoire than spans most of the famous classical pieces and traditional music choices for weddings. When it comes to popular music, they will usually have a selection of popular piano ballads that will have been rearranged as an instrumental for piano. This could include artists like Elton John, Keane, Ray Charles and possibly even some jazz pieces by the likes of Herbie Hancock.
While most classical piano players will perform solo, some will have the option for accompanying musicians, such as string players, at an additional cost. This should always be discussed with your pianist in advance, as should any requests that you would like the act to have prepared. Make sure you listen to any potential acts audio examples and watch video showreels, to ensure that they perform the kind of music that you would like played at your event.
