Saxophonists:
A versatile instrument, the saxophone is a popular component in bands and ensembles that perform jazz, blues and pop music. For those keen on enjoying the sound and atmosphere that only a saxophone can bring, clients need look no further than the Last Minute Musicians saxophonists. Professional musicians in their own right and graduates of prestigious music colleges such as the Royal Northern College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music, saxophonists can be hired to either perform as a solo act or within a band. Regularly appointed for session work, saxophonists often stand in as deps for function bands and theatre pits whilst also making themselves available to be book by clients for private events such as weddings and corporate events.
Ideal for: Weddings and Corporate Events:
Many saxophonists, along side their work depping for bands, also choose to perform as solo musicians using backing tracks. Performing a wide repertoire of songs from the past five decades to suit all types of audience, a saxophonist performing to a backing track allows clients to enjoy the sound of a full band whilst only paying for one musician. Not only is this an affordable option, it is also perfect for when guests are enjoying drinks and mingling.
As well as standing in for other bands, most saxophonists also perform with other musicians in ensembles. Whilst these ensembles are available to clients at a higher fee, it is often the case that they are more suitable for corporate events and weddings. Accompanied by a piano/guitar, both or a full band, this line up is well suited to performing during a first wedding dance, during a wedding ceremony or as background music for important corporate events.

Price:
As solo performers, saxophonists can be hired from between £140 – £300 per set, which typically lasts two to three hours with occasional breaks. If clients want their saxophonist to perform for longer or to finish later, fees will be increased. It is important that clients are aware that the fee includes one hour before performance start time to setup, sound-check.
As an ensemble, fees begin to become more expensive. As guidelines, two sets of 45 minutes for duo saxophonist and piano can cost around £375 whilst a quartet or quintet with piano/guitar, bass, drums and saxophone can cost upwards of £750.
History of the saxophone:
The invention of the saxophone during the 19th century by Adolphe Sax was designed to compliment brass instruments in military bands. The saxophone (a woodwind instrument) occupies the middle ground between the woodwinds and brass section and from its invention the saxophone has revolutionised popular music, particularly jazz. Popularised by musicians such as Sidney Bechet, Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane, the saxophone was used to propel jazz to new highs during the 20th century, particularly through improvisation. Today the saxophone is commonly used in orchestras, military bands and continues to be a key component of jazz and popular music.
