I believe I was a born musician!
It's something that I have always been into, from a very early age.
The first instrument I learned was the recorder at school, but I actually took it seriously and quickly learned to read music and play quite well on the descant, treble and tenor recorders.
At secondary school I started with the clarinet and worked my way through the grades to grade 6, along with singing. At that time, the saxophone was just a second instrument and I took it up again seriously into adulthood, by attending music college in Leeds.
My main instrument now is the tenor saxophone for which I play straight ahead jazz, but I also play the alto and soprano, mainly for funk and soul and acoustic gigs. At college I also studied the flute as a subsidiary instrument and took piano lessons.
In 2010 I took up playing the trombone snd subsequently the sousaphone as I enjoy listening to and playing reggae, ska and New Orleans style jazz. It was initially a bit of fun but I worked my way through the jazz grades on the trombone and then took that seriously too!
I have also run and managed my own bands, which I still do: Brassbound, a funky, jazzy brass and wind street band; Silverrock, a reggae band and The Funk N Disorderleez, a funk, soul and disco band.
I do lots of session work and recordings and really enjoy writing horn lines for songs. But my first love is playing live and at the moment, as well as playing with bands, I do quite a few solo performances to backing tracks or alongside a DJ or percussionist.
You will always get a professional and lively performance from me, a friendly smile and plenty of engagement with the audience!
Choose me for your special occasion and I will deliver a performance to remember!

Electricity power point needed close to performance space.
But for smaller venues I have a battery powered wireless speaker.
I can bring my own pa equipment if required: 800 watt single or twin speakers with mixer or a small speaker.
Size of venue;
Is there a noise limiter?
Will I need to provide a PAT certificate and/or public liability certificate?
Is there nearby accessible parking?
How many guests expected?
If outside, will I be undercover?
Is the venue discoverable via satnav?
Yes I can
As a solo performer I have performed twice at the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum for the Financial Times Awards.
I am influenced by too many people but one of my favourite artists has to be Bob Marley and my favourite songs of his that I play regularly are Waiting In Vain and One Love.
I began gigging once I left school with a local community jazz band and my solo gigging took off after studying at music college.
I have since performed at weddings, parties, bar/bat mitzvahs, mendhi nights, funerals, festivals and corporate events over the last 25 years.
I love to play at all occasions!
I love to make people dance at parties and weddings, or play with a band at a festival, but I also love to sit in a corner and play dinner jazz whilst people are eating!
I play all styles of music to suit all occasions but my favourite styles are jazz on tenor sax and R&B, Soul; Reggae; Pop; Dance and Afrobeat on alto sax.
I play alongside backing tracks
Only if I already have the downloaded backing track. However, if WiFi is available I am happy to play along to a YouTube karaoke backing track although I might not know the song!
Set up time for pa is approximately 30 minutes.
When using a smaller wireless dossier, set up time is 10-15 minutes.
Yes, as long as there is a contingency plan if the weather is bad (it starts to rain or is extremely hot with strong sunshine )
Clients can choose the songs they wish me to play from my set list or I am happy to learn songs of their choice with sufficient notice.
I am also happy to simply play their choice of genre which then gives an element of surprise and this is my preferred option.
Typical review is as follows:
“Ann-Marie played an hours set at our wedding and she delivered a modern and versatile performance! She listened to what we wanted and exceeded our expectations! the guest were complimentary and we couldn’t have asked for more! ”
Yes, along with a mic if needed
Depending on what I have to set up, it can range from between 10 and 30 minutes
