"Absolute Mayhem The Horse & Chains, Bushey on Saturday 30 September 2023 It's a rare thing to go into a local pub and hear a keyboard player who has been described as a musical "genius" by none other than David Bowie. This is no tall story either. The musician Billy Ritchie was the first player in rock music to give keyboards a prominent role -- and that was before Keith Emerson (ELP) and Rick Wakeman came on the scene. Billy told me that he remained good friends with the Thin White Duke until his death in 2016. Lanark-born Mr Ritchie now provides the skilful and fancy keyboards and records backing tracks for his latest incarnation Mayhem with talented female singer Carol Leslie. Carol is a really strong vocalist with a gutsy style. This dynamic duo started their first set at the cosy Sebright Arms with Elvis's late sixties' classic Suspicious Minds. The second song was a surprise -- Kirsty MacColl's comedy number There's A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop Swears His Elvis. It was a perfect choice after the first song. Carol and Billy select their material wisely and give their audience something very different from the predictable Mustang Sally, Brown Eyed Girl and I Saw Her Standing There, churned out by so many pub bands. So it was great to hear Georgio Moroder and Phil Oakey's electro smash Together In Electric Dreams, Matchbox's catchy rocker Rockabilly Rebel, Starship's uplifting We Built This City (on which Billy demonstrated his keyboard dexterity) and Solomon Burke's gospel-ish Cry To Me. And that was just the first half. Carol is happy to tackle songs usually associated with male vocalists and she started part two with a raucous version of Bryan Adams' rocker Summer Of 69. If you have never seen Mayhem, ask Billy to perform Light My Fire, the Doors rock classic from 1967. This was a sheer musical masterclass as he re-created both vocally and instrumentally this great song. Billy has a rich, tuneful voice and this was a stunning performance. Other highlights in the second half included Journey's rock anthem Don't Stop Believing, Carol's gritty interpretation if Shania Twain's Man I Feel Like A Woman and a fine performance of Bon Jovi's Living On A Prayer A total of 24 songs and I cannot wait to see this duo again. My only concern is their name. I think many club and pubgoers might think Mayhem are a heavy metal band rather than an all-round, top class duo. "Let me say that Paul and I were really impressed by your performance at our Wedding Reception. You were better than we had even hoped for and believe me our expectations were high. We have had so many people compliment you on your playing and singing, I don’t think they thought one man could do all that!"

"Thank YOU so much Zoe, it was really lovely. Granted i did miss most of you, but Stephen was actually choked up at the surprise of you playing, particularly when you played 1000 years. We were meant to get married last October so that his sister could be there - we found out she had terminal cancer in June last year, but she passed away in September, hence we had to postpone. That song was very special to Stephen as it reminded him of his sister. It was like she was there with us when you played"

"I had to leave a review after the most fantastic night, booked to play for a 60th birthday. Thoroughly brilliant, not only played exactly what we wanted but really good banter with everyone so had us all in stitches too. His voice is faultless and the musicianship is just perfect. My hubby is a guitarist and even he was scratching his head !! I’m going to be getting our company to boom him for an event in the summer so until next time we all Thankyou for making the night memorable."

"super duper thank you to Nat and the band for the amazing music on our wedding eve. It was mega!! Really hope you guys enjoyed yourselves, we had an absolute blast and everyone said how much they enjoyed it. Hiring Nat and the five piece band for our wedding was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble for Nat, he ensured we had each and every song we had requested for the DJ fills and did everything possible to make it the best experience for us. Nat gave advice where we asked for it but made sure it was personal to our day. The band were ace and had everyone up dancing just as we’d hoped. The trumpet player was a real bonus who surprised us by playing over some of the dance tracks later in the evening, which the guests loved! Top class and highly recommended. Thank you! "

"We're so glad to welcome back to IPO Liverpool, Starshine, who has played as the front woman of the Cheshire-based band, and also solo. Either way, her songs are very infectious, and she plays them with a very, well...infectious exuberance!"

"Tony and the gang, what a great night you gave us all. Great music, great appearance, just great all round entertainment. Clients are already asking when The Shakesters will be back. We will definitely be asking you back for an evening which is too good to miss. We highly recommend The Shakesters for a great selection of 60’s music."

"We had the pleasure of having Country Bound - Scotland perform at our wedding. Rebecca has an exceptional voice and went above and beyond to ensure our guests had the most memorable night. I would highly recommend this country band for anyone who is looking for their wedding. It was truly a night we will never forget."
