Comprising Accordion (with midi bass/keyboards), Electric and Acoustic Guitar, Fiddle, Drums, 2 vocals and ceilidh dance caller, We’re a high-energy ceilidh and covers band with a rocky twist, with over 25 years’ experience playing at countless Wedding Receptions, Caledonian Society events, Hogmanay events, Burns nights, Parties, Graduation Balls, School Proms, Corporate Functions and Festivals at home and overseas.
We have a quite unique approach to the traditional tunes with occasional mashups of rock songs and riffs in amongst the jigs and reels while still remaining solidly rooted in the Scottish tradition. It’s full of surprises! As well as having an extensive repertoire of traditional jigs, reels, marches, waltzes and so on we have a collection of rock and pop cover songs which we can play in the latter part of the evening if required.
We "call" all the ceilidh dances, ie. give dance instructions to your guests so that everyone can join in the shenanigans. No previous ceilidh experience is required! It's always a good laugh getting folks through the steps which encourages plenty of interaction and banter between the band and the audience. Davie has over 25 years’ ceilidh-calling experience and takes great pride in making sure that the dancefloor is full and that everyone has fun!
We often work with a DJ so can provide ceilidh and disco if you'd like a bit of both! Call us to discuss!

2 x 13A mains sockets, Ideally minimum 3m x 4m performance space. Parking for 4 cars and a load-in entrance near to the hall/ballroom/suite/stage.
We have our own PA/sound system which is adaptable for small, intimate venues up to large ballrooms.
We have our own LED and laser stage lighting.
For any venues new to us we like to find out about where we can load our equipment in, and any useful information about any shortcuts or easier ways to get from our vehicles to the stage or performance area.
We have playlists of background music on iPods that we play during any breaks. If wedding guests get up to dance to it we can turn the volume up to create a more disco-type vibe, man... If the bride and groom have a playlist of their own we're more than happy to connect their device to our sound system. We have a collection of the most common adapters to enable us to connect any audio device to our system.
There have been so many so it's difficult to single any one out but one we will never forget was a wedding we played at in the Medici Villa “La Ferdinanda” in Artimino in Tuscany, 20 miles from Florence. The wedding ceremony was outside on the lawn and there was an Italian soprano who sang before and during the ceremony, accompanied by a pianist. Two of us played the new bride and groom back up the aisle (accordion and acoustic guitar) and up the sweeping stairs of the villa to the balcony. It was fairytale stuff and the commanding view from the villa across the valley to the mediaeval village was breathtaking. After all the photographs, formalities and dinner we played in the villa for the ceilidh and included some Italian classics, just because we were there, and because we could. The bride, groom, family and friends were lovely and it was just one of those ones where everything was absolutely perfect.
Far too many to single out anyone. There are four of us in this band and we all have very different tastes and influences! A veritable eclectic ceilectric mix! From traditional Scottish/Irish to Classical, Indie, Americana, Cajun, Zydeco, Rock, Prog Rock, Punk, Bluegrass, Heavy Metal. Ask us an easy one!
The four of us have totally different musical backgrounds and paths to where we now are. That's possibly one of the reasons why this wee band sounds so interesting with the many different influences and experience all in the melting pot.
We're very lucky to have played at so many different types of event and enjoyed pretty much every one of them, but the majority of events we play at are, in fact, weddings. To be trusted to be the entertainment for a whole evening on what is probably the most important day of a bride and groom's lives is an honour and a privilege and one that we really love. These are such happy occasions full of emotion and everybody is there to celebrate and enjoy the day, and to be a part of that and to contribute and get the people dancing and laughing and smiling is a real joy. Then when we see the big smiles on the faces of the bride and groom at the end of the night we're reminded of why we do this. Yes. Weddings. We love playing at weddings.
For weddings, typically arrive at 6.30pm, Play 8pm 'til Midnight with 30 minute break when evening buffet is served.
Or, as above but play from 8pm up until the buffet at c. 9.45/10pm and DJ takes over 'til midnight.
For corporate functions, usually arrive late afternoon to load-in and setup, to be soundchecked and clear before guests arrive, typically at around 7pm. We return on site to be ready to play from c. 9.30/10pm until midnight.
Festivals, private parties and other events we work around whatever timings are required for the organisers and clients.
We are happy to perform outside as long as there is
1. A proper, covered stage/performance area in case of rain, hail or snow!
2. If power is from a non-mains supply, for example, a generator, that the power supply must be "clean" and "stable" since we have very sensitive electronic equipment.
3. Sometimes, in Summer, it's very humid outside and condensation can form on our instruments. If this is the case, we will not perform outside since the condensation can cause short circuits on our electronic equipment.
Since we are mainly a ceilidh band, our repertoire of traditional tunes and dances will suit most clients as is, but we do listen and take requests for particular tunes and dances. For our rock and pop covers set, although we do have a decent repertoire of classics, we are not iTunes! so we have to consider any requests for songs not on our list to see if we can play them to a high standard with the instrumentation we have. We're quite proud of what we can produce given that we are accordion, guitar, fiddle, drums and vocals but there are certain songs that, if we feel we cannot do proper justice to, we'd prefer to avoid them. We'd hate to murder an otherwise great song!
However! We often work with DJs and can provide if so required. A popular set up is to have the ceilidh from the first dance up until the evening buffet, when the DJ takes over, playing background music and when the buffet is cleared the DJ cranks up the volume and gets the tunes on until the end of the evening.
"Amazing, Fantastic."
"We didn't expect to hear a Pink Floyd song in the middle of a Dashing White Sergeant".
"Full of surprises"
"We weren't looking forward to the evening because we'd heard that it was a ceilidh band that was playing, but we were blown away with your performance and didn't expect to hear Kasabian, Deep Purple and Muse songs in the middle of Strip the Willow! We are now converted!"
