Add to favouritesFor all Britpop and 90s music fans across the UK, having a local 90's band play at your birthday party or wedding will be a dream come true! Whether it's rock anthems or cheesy sing-along pop hits, the 90's was a decade that contained a little bit of something for everyone. 90's function bands have a varied repertoire of hits from that include classic songs from artists such as Oasis, Blur, Take That, Madonna and, of course… The Spice Girls!
“Saw these guys last night & they were amazing! I LOVE Oasis & it was great to hear a group doing their tracks so well... I almost thought it was Liam up there! Would definitely see them again!”
Jenny
Ideal for:
1990’s tribute bands are obviously going to suit audiences of a certain generation better than others. This could lead to them playing at either public or private events, and will be just at home at themed hotel and venue nights as at weddings and other private bookings.
A strong theme for your event is a must for any tribute night – encourage your guests to dress up and try to decorate the venue accordingly!
When booking a 90’s band:
When hiring a live band for your event you'll need to take into consideration the requirements of the band, as well as the age of your guests and how many guests you have attending.
A live band will arrive before the start of your event to set up and sound check, and they're likely to be there at least a couple of hours after your event packing away their equipment. Because of this, it's customary for a client to serve each band member a hot meal before the performance, not only as a good will gesture, but in order to get the best possible show out of them!
You'll also need to make the band aware of any restraints the venue may have regarding live music - some venues only have licenses that allow live music to be played before 11pm and may also have a sound limiter installed that can cut off the electricity if the noise goes above a certain decibel level. It is important to let your contact in the band know about these as soon as possible.
The key to booking a live band is organisation and effective communication with your band, so that they know exactly what you want from their performance. A professional band will have plenty of experience and will be well rehearsed, so you can guarantee that a professional 90's band will get your guests up and dancing, and re-living the best of sounds of the 90s!
Pricing for 90's bands:
A typical set up for a 90's band (excluding Nirvana Tributes!) will be a 4 piece band with at least one guitar player. For this many musicians, you'll usually be looking at a price of at least £600. If you're looking for affordable 90's bands, it's good to try and find one that's local. Use the 'advanced search' feature to find a recommended 90's band local to you.
About 90’s music:
As is usually the way in popular music, much of what happened in the 1990's was a reaction to what went before it. In the UK, the late 80's had set up the Madchester scene, which (like Liverpool in the 60's) had paved the way for the music industry to once again become less London-centric, for a time. In the early 90's, this meant "Britpop" like The Verve and Oasis enjoyed regular chart success, as well as their counterparts from the south of the country like Blur and Supergrass.
In the early 90's, rock in the US had become a slightly different animal - partly in reaction to the 'Hair Metal' of the 80's. Bands were loosing the highly-styled look, and opting for a much plainer style and more musical simplicity. 'Grunge' Acts like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains could not have looked or sounded more different to the big production stadium rock of the 80's.
On both sides of the channel, the 90's also saw a big revolution in pop music. Boy and girl bands like NSYNC and The Spice Girls enjoyed much success on both sides of the atlantic, as well as solo artists like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Robbie Williams finding their way to the top of the charts. This would also prove something of a golden age for both Hip-Hop and Rap, with definitive records coming out from Lauren Hill, Will Smith, Jay-Z and OutKast.
