Marty's Groovy Party is a pro sax player whose solo performance is sure to lift the groove factor of any special occasion. Performing with bands and DJs across Europe and beyond, the Algarve, Prague, New York, Calcutta, and Berlin Marty is an experienced multi-genre specialist, whether playing infectious Ibiza House for club vibes, pop greats or straight-ahead Jazz for a more mellow atmosphere.

If required a sound system can be provided which will rock the house along and can tailor a bespoke set list just for you. For a little extra, I can provide a full DJ service, with lights and interactive crowd-responsive live DJ mixing.

If I am performing with a DJ I need to know: a) if they are happy to perfrom with a sax b) if they have a set up I can plug into c) if I need to bring my own soundsystem.

The best gig I have ever done was in the Keralan, India, when I rocked up at a person's wedding with my fiance and played an impromptu gig for 200 guests. They loved it, we loved it even if it was a bit sweaty.
In Jazz, John Coltrane is my biggest inspiration, but also Benny Goodman. In contemporary music I love St Germain, Calvin Harris, Gerry Rafferty, Average White Band, Marceo Parker, Blessed Madonna. The best iconic saxophone song of all time either Careless Whisper or Baker Street - difficult to decide.
I am largely self taught have been pro since I was 18 when I gigged on the Jazz scene on my year out in Prague, Czech Republic. Upon returning to Glasgow, Scotland, I played with DJs at club events, became a member of various bands including Acid Jazz signed band Nimbus Sextet, as well as sessioning on 2 albums with world acclaimed reggae sound system Mungo's Hifi. I've traveled extensively, playing accross Spain and Portugal at beach resorts, Jazz and dance music clubs and events, as well as playing in Croatia, Germany, USA, India etc.
I took a degree as a mature student in Jazz as the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
I love all events, but especially ones where people listen to my playing and are up for getting up and dancing. I truly feel music is a gift to be shared and I am honoured to be able to help with this, no matter the occasion.
If playing with DJ and it is a straight forward input, and we have prearranged this, it can take only 15 mins to set up. My own sound system taked 20 mins to set up. However I always arrive minimum 30 mins before the gig is due to start,
Typically I perform either a full hour or 2x 45 mins.
I am happy to perform outside if the weather is guaranteed or there is a gazebo/awning. If accessible I have a campervan with an awning I can set up under.
Clients are welcome to contribute towards the set list, but I would limit new songs for me to 5 due to the time it takes to learn them. However, equally, I can turn up and jam with a DJ and just go with the flow without prior notice of the tunes, I am excellent at changing key and vibe according to the track.
Previous clients describe my performance as lively and virtuosic. I always dance when I play disco/house/funk and get people dancing. I find it difficult not to dance to be honest, if the beat is good. As a friendly open guy I love reaching out and making people feel comfortable with letting go on the dance floor. In the more chilled events I can keep to the background and add to the fabric of the atmosphere.
