They provide a total entertainment solution for corporate or private events.

Fun, music and mayhem. Party classics, rocking tunes, all carried off with humour and energy by an experienced, highly capable and totally cool live band.

Extensive, flexible range of great dance music and classic show-stoppers, interspersed with generous helpings of cheese, both vintage and modern.

With the addition of our optional fiddle player we can also play traditional jigs and reels and a whole range of Irish songs, as well as our mainstream party set.

We need to know any directions that will help us find the venue and find the right place to load in our equipment

Frequently Asked Questions

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

The Big Cheese are a band of talented musicians, vastly experienced at playing to audiences and superbly good at what they do.

Alexis is the main man, a veteran of thousands of gigs as a solo player at parties and in restaurants, wine bars, pubs, clubs, festivals and weddings. He is the guy that fronts the band, plays guitar, drives the van and answers the phone and will always be at any booking, answerable to the event and to the client. Grant helps him out on the admin side of things, as well as playing bass and vocal duties.

To ensure that the whole band at your event are not subject to the availability of any one particular musician, there are a pool of players, all trusted and highly capable, that gig regularly with Alexis.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

We love playing at all sorts of events but weddings are our favourite! The guests are always happy and it’s easy to get them dancing.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We usually arrive on site at 6pm and, if appropriate, start loading in and setting up. If there are speeches or such, we will wait until the best moment. We like to play 2 longish sets of 75 minutes each, common timings are: 8:30-9:45, 10:15-11:30. We can then DJ until midnight, which is when we usually like to finish up. This is all flexible of course, but it works well as a starting point.

Are you happy to perform outside?

We’re happy to play outside but we ask for shade, a flat level surface and a power supply close to the performance area.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We offer to learn any song of your choice as a first dance. We have a large repertoire, and often take requests on the night. If you have very specific "love it" or "hate it" from our set list, please let us know and then we will tailor the song choice around this.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

"the best wedding band they had ever heard", "There wasn’t a moment that dance floor was not filled", "loved your music and you created a great atmosphere all evening", "All our guests thought you guys were great", " played their socks off once again", "everyone loved your song selection and ability to play all the songs requested, no matter how random they were", "incredibly slick and a great mix of pop and Irish".
