About / Biography

A lively fiddle driven Folk Rock Ceilidh and Barn and Dance band who perform all over the country at Festivals, Weddings ,Folk Clubs, Pubs and private Functions.
The current lineup of West Midlands based Willow Tree is Mick on electric and acoustic guitars, mandola and vocals, Jen on fiddle, Deb on saxophones, whistles, vocals and acoustic guitar,  Chris on bass and vocals, and Alex on drums.
The Midlands based band draws on the folk tradition but deliver the music with a rock feel and energy. The band members all have many years of experience performing lively Celtic, Roots, folk rock music and specialize in bringing up-tempo jigs and reels and contemporary folk-rock songs to a new audience.

Ceilidh Band
For barn dances or ceilidhs we play lively jigs and reels mixed with upbeat, traditional, folk instrumental music and interspersed with contemporary, original folk rock songs.
Our band and caller are especially well suited to running dance events and parties for people who have had no previous experience of country dancing.  So don’t worry – we’ll tell you exactly what to do!
Willow Tree ceilidhs involve set dances, drawn mostly from the English tradition, performed in groups of 4, 6, 8 or sometimes as many people as wish to dance. They can be square, circle or long-ways sets. Sometimes you stick with your partner, other times everyone swaps about
All instructions are given by our caller. The dances are generally quite simple to follow after a few times through.
Most of all, its fun, quite energetic and helps to get your guests mingling – what’s more you don’t need any previous experience.
We can intersperse the set dances with original songs and instrumental folk material, to give your guests a rest.

Folk Rock Band
We are a folk-rock five-piece band playing a mixture of loud and lively folk-rock: fiddle driven traditional and contemporary songs and tunes, and jigs and reels – with added saxophone.
Also play at Irish and Paddy nights.
