The Runaways were formed in 1982 with Tim Adams on rhythm guitar & vocs, Gary Bryant (GB) on lead guitar and Ivan Thurlow on drums & vocs still 40 years on with the new member Cliff Skinner joining in 2017 playing up on bass guitar & vocs completes The Runaways line respectively. Since reforming, The Runaways have been continuously committed to producing a quality performance and are particularly renowned for their authentic representation of music from The Shadows, including the choreography! In the 1980’s and 90’s the Runaways worked alongside famous names in the world of entertainment and as the backing band to original singing stars of the fifties and sixties. They also appeared as special guests on BBC radio stations across the country and have made appearances on London Weekend Television and Sky TV. Most recently on BBC radio Essex and mentioned in the credits of The Shadows at 60 BBC4 Documentary. You will find The Runaways continue to produce the highest quality sound and still rehearse regularly to perfect numbers and learn new ones to extend their repertoire. They also pay attention to the visual aspects of their performances and are always immaculate in their smart suits and memorable for their striking bright red guitars and those famous ‘walks’! Audiences are constantly amazed by the range of sounds GB produces using his guitar synthesizer and find it hard to believe that performances are completely live without the use of backing tracks as he switches effortlessly from the sound of the clarinet for Stranger on the Shore, through to the accordion for Sea of Heartbreak to pure Fender Strat in Apache, for example. Despite having worked with members of The Shadows and being renowned for the authenticity of their production of Shadows' numbers, The Runaways are far more than a Shadows tribute band. With the vast experience and individual talents of each member and their extensive repertoire of vocal and instrumental numbers, The Runaways produce a performance tailored to each venue/event and often receive standing ovations and unending demands for encores! The Runaways will travel further afield if accommodation/travel costing is supplied, pending the required details of each venue and booking info.

Yes, we’re completely self contained. We bring our own PA system to all of our gigs as well as a simple lighting rig
Closest point to where we will be playing, car parking facilities, changing facilities (for our smart stage suits) When can we arrive to set up sound check in good time before the performance.
We can play our MP3 player before after and during our break with music of the same theme. We have a band play on so no need to introduce us on stage! :)
Yes, we have PLI for up to 10m through our partners AMPband.
We played on shows with the stars on the 50's and 60's and also on stage with Bruce Welch himself of The Shadows fame! We played in front of over 100,000 people at Folkestone Air Show on the bandstand!
As we are a Shadows Tribute we look up to those as our inspiration. I would say Apache is the most loved but we would all have our own favourites. You will have to ask us!
We started back in 1982 Tim and GB (Gary) and Ivan knew each other from school age with various changes of the years of bass players and drummers we are still going strong 42 years onwards!
We have played everywhere you could think of in a barn, side of a lorry, theatre, social club, pub, back garden golf clubs list is endless but we do love a nice big stage with a theatre atmosphere get the audience rocking in the aisles !
6-6.15pm arrival for an 8.30 start. A 2 x 1 hour sets works best for us, but able to adjust according to the booker.
We’re happy to play outside but we ask for shade, a flat level surface and a power supply close to the performance area
We like to stay to a set list but if the band knows it quite happy to play it or another from that artist or genre .
We were playing in Southend Essex when Bruce Welch of the Shadows turned up to watch us play, we were on stage into the set he arrived at the main door turned to his driver and said 'have they started yet (Thinking it was background music) When he walked in he said 'wow i thought it was a record!! We played on 3 of his shows after that.
Another comment which is mentioned very often is 'you close your eyes and you really think its The Shadows' !
