Imagine a two-piece band that can nail songs like David Bowie's Life On Mars, Queen's Killer Queen or Joan Armatrading's Love and Affection -- a bold, versatile and talented acoustic act who can pull off classic tunes that other bands don't attempt. From the Beatles, Blur and Bob Marley to Toto, Talking Heads and Tears for Fears, The Lightwaves can play it all.
With their great stagecraft, creative arrangements and tight vocal harmonies, The Lightwaves have been amazing audiences across the East of England since 2017. They have appeared several times on Cambridge 105 radio, played at festivals including Cambridge's Strawberry Fair, Big Weekend and Foodies Fest, and made over 100 other public and private appearances including weddings and corporate bookings.
Ranjan Vasudevan (12-string guitar, vocals) is a seasoned guitarist, vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist with many rock, folk, jazz, and blues credits across London and Cambridge, from local pubs to lunchtime concerts at the South Bank centre.
Lee Phillips (ukulele, vocals) is a veteran of regional acts in the UK and France. Lee has played hundreds of shows at festivals, functions and local venues. A skilled rock vocalist and innovative ukulele player, he also plays bass and guitar.
The Lightwaves has an ever-expanding set list of well-known songs mostly from the '60s to the '90s, and can play from short sets to 2-hour-plus evening experiences. We can play with or without amplification, but we recommend amplification for all but the smallest venues (We can provide our own PA system, and can restrict our volume). We can tailor the balance of our set between faster-paced pop and more delicate songs, and will even consider learning special requests on an individual basis.
