The Highland Bagpiper- Simon Addison

There's nothing quite like the unique sight and sound of a traditional Highland Piper to add a distinctive touch to any special event. Playing to a high standard, Simon is the leading piper in Herefordshire and surrounding areas and he can supply the tunes to make your occasion memorable. He is Pipe Sergeant for the Cwmbran & District Pipes and Drums, currently the largest pipe band in Wales and has over 23 years providing a top-class and authentic piping experience.

About Simon

Simon Addison is a full-time, professional Highland Piper and he has been playing the Great Highland Bagpipe for over 20 years. Already an accomplished musician, having trained as a classical trumpeter at the age of 12, Simon took up the pipes at the age of 19 and studied at the College of Piping in Glasgow as well as having personal tuition from a former Argyll and Sutherland piper, he has gone on to become a very talented and accomplished Highland Piper. He has recently been promoted to Pipe Sergeant for the Cwmbran and District Pipes and Drums in South Wales. Simon is a full-time piper and also offers tuition for the Great Highland Bagpipe.

In great demand, Simon is available to perform for your special occasion and these include-

Weddings/civil partnerships

Funerals and memorial services

Burns Night

Birthdays and anniversaries

Corporate entertainment

Film/TV

Armed Forces events

Charity/fundraising events

And anything where the sound of the pipes would make a unique and spectacular addition!

Reliable, professional and immaculately turned out, Simon has a long and established pedigree of solo piping and he is constantly in demand. As a solo and band piper, he has piped nationally and overseas including performing at Les Transhumances Musicales in the South of France.

References and testimonials can be supplied and Simon holds full PLI.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

I don't require any form of amplification or a power supply.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

I'm entirely self-contained

What information do you require about a venue?

I usually ask for a room in which I can leave instrument cases and get changed (if required)

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

No, as I'm an entirely acoustic act

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

There are too many excellent gigs to mention but Brympton House in Yeovil and Stanbrook Abbey in Worcester are possibly the best wedding venues I have ever piped at.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Piping wise- Fred Morrison, Bill Livingstone, Gavin Stoddart and Davy Spillane. As for pipe bands- the 78th Fraser Highlanders, the pipes and drums of the Atholl Highlanders, Huntly And District, The Gordon Highlanders and Bagad Kemper from Brittany. Cullen Bay is possibly my favourite tune to play on the pipes along with The Heights Of Dargai

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

My first ever gig was piping in the New Year at a hotel in Hereford in 2000 and since then, I've performed at literally thousands of events over the last 23 years.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I enjoy all events as they each have a unique experience. I pipe for a lot of solemn events such as funerals, ceremonial events and memorial services and for those, I am in heavy demand but my favourite type of event has to be Burns Night or a Hogmanay party.

Do you play any other type of bagpipe?

Yes, I play the Scottish Smallpipes and they are great for adding some background music at indoor events where the Highland Pipes would be too loud

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I usually require at least 10 minutes to get the pipes set up and in tune and a room to get changed if I have to travel to a performance.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes , I play outdoors as well as indoors.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I am happy for a client to submit a request although I have an extensive repertoire which I'm more than happy to let the client choose music from the list. I also advise as to which pieces will be suitable for the client's needs.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Please read my testimonials for details!
