Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

As a singer, I performed at Cork Jazz Festival 3 times and those gigs would rank as my favourites - always a brilliant, listening audience, great sound and amazing musicians.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

I have been influenced by Elvis Costello, Joni Mitchell, John Martyn and Sarah Vaughan, all of whom I would class as my favourite artists! The greatest song of all time - way too many to mention.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I have been a singer on the Scottish jazz scene for over 20 years, working with bands from duos up to full 17 piece big bands. My new career offshoot is singing with my harp and I’ve been getting wonderful comments from my audiences.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I just love to play and am happy anywhere. My favourite would have to be where I can interact with the audience, even getting them involved by having them select the songs - this makes for a fun gig!

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I normally arrive 1.5 hours before the performance to set up and sound check. I normally perform 2 x 45 minute sets but can also do 2 x 60 minute sets

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, as long as there is a flat level surface, shade, power supply and cover if it's raining

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Clients can choose what I play from my list. I can learn new songs if enough notice is given. I can also do a live jukebox show where the audience can select the songs that they want to hear (from a list of around 50 songs). These choices are then pulled randomly from the 'hat' and sung/played

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous audiences have commented on how relaxed my music makes them feel.

Do you use backing tracks?

No, I create loops and use special vocal & harp effects to create the sound live.
