Still Reeling offer a mixture of English; Irish; Scottish; American and European dances and music. Our musicians have an eclectic background ranging from traditional ceilidh and folk to Classical (solo and orchestra); Jazz; Big Band and Brass Band and we incorporate this into our style. The core band are also experienced in traditional dancing, enabling us to adjust the music to fit the dancing. Being fully inclusive, a ceilidh or barn dance is for everyone.
Prior experience of this type of dancing is not required, we have our own 'in-house' caller, who will guide your guests through each dance. Themes can be accommodated eg Hoe Down, Scottish or Irish nights.
Please contact us to discuss any of the following - we will try to meet your requirements:

We require:
An adequate area for the band to set up and perform
Dancing space - ceilidhs and barn dances require considerable space (at least thre 4 times an average disco floor area), for your guests to enjoy the evening.
Parking is required for at least 2 cars (for the smaller band), each additional musician may require another parking space. Parking will be required near to the entry of the venue for off-loading and loading of equipment.
If there are car parking fees at your venue - this is to be paid by client in addition to fee quoted.
CAZ charges will be added to quote if necessary.
13 amp socket required.
Yes we are fully equiped - PA equipment, instruments etc. however as a Ceilidh Band lighting rig is not usually provided.
We need to know any directions that will help us find the venue and find the right place to load in our equipment. It is helpful to be informed if there’s a sound limiter in the venue.
We are happy to play pre-recorded music before, after and between our sets. We’re happy to choose the music ourselves or let the client provide their own playlist on a iPad, phone or similar device.
Still Reeling are fully insured. We have PLI, PAT and kit insurance. We are happy to email copies to your events co-ordinator.
Some of our band have been performing for many years, in various parts of the country. Every gig is different, even in the same venue.
We have a mixture of musical backgrounds, so have been influnced by too many to mention.
Still Reeling started for a one off birthday party for a relative 15 years ago. We all had musical experience and pooled our knowledge to offer a unique style. Mary, our Accordionist had played in Ceilidh bands since her teens. 3 of the band have been Morris Dancers and were very familiar with the Folk Scene.
We love playing at all types of events .
At least 1 hour is required prior to performance time for set up and sound checking. At least 30 minutes to pack up after performance. Early set up times can sometimes be arranged at additional cost (however the band will not leave their equipment unattended).
We usually perform for 3 hours, with at least a 30 minute break (usually whilst your guests are eating), or 2 hours with no break. Additional time performance is charged at £50 per half hour until midnight (events continuing after midnight - please contact to discuss)
During the evening we usually give your guests a break from dancing and play selected arrangements of traditional music.
Recorded music can be played via an iPod (or similar device) during breaks taken by the band, our speakers are Bluetooth.
We always ask for cover for the band - because of the British weather, sensitivity of our instruments and electrical equipment. A large, safe, level area is also required for dancing.
We are always happy to stick to a theme eg Scottish only. If we have enough notice we will take dance requests . Our caller is skilled at reading the room and choosing suitable dances for any event.
Previous clients describe our band as great music with a patient caller.
Yes , our caller updates by attending training and workshops. Our instructions are not gender specific.
As a live band we can alter the speed of the music to accomodate the dancers needs.
Yes, having performed at many weddings we have several suitable dances. Please feel free to contact and discuss your event and ideas.
We usually perform in black outfits, with our caller wearing a bright waistcoat so that he is easily identified on the floor. However our accordionist and violinists are unable to perform in jackets due to their requirement for free arm movemnents.
