SJC are a versatile collective of hand picked professional jazz musicians. We provide music for all celebrations and events and offer a range of jazz ensembles, from solo and duo all the way to quintet and more.
The collective is comprised of professional session musicians from London and the South of England who have played in some of the best jazz clubs in London, including Ronnie Scott's, The Vortex Jazz Club, and the 606 club.
We provide all equipment needed for the event, all we need are power sources and space to set up. This includes a PA system suitable for small to medium-sized venues, there is no extra cost for equipment hire or set up. We can also provide a microphone for any speeches and announcements you wish to make.
The band leader, Ed, formed the collective after working within the jazz session scene in London and being inspired to create a versatile jazz band that can cater to any event or budget. We began with a focus on jazz standards and have expanded to offer a unique take on already well-known songs. Ed has worked with various artists throughout Europe, most recently returning from a tour of Italy and France and has worked on scores for film and theatre.
Since SJC was founded in 2021 we have performed at events ranging from private birthday parties and weddings to music festivals in the South of England. We are based in West London but will happily travel further for your event!

We need a performance space of 5 x 5metres for our smaller set ups and larger for our larger bands. We need 4 power sockets and 2 parking spaces.
Yes we can provide a full PA for ourselves as well as microphones for any speeches/announcements. We do not have our own lighting but can hire in lights if required.
We need to know any directions into the venue and where to unload our equipment/park any vehicles.
We are more than happy to provide a Spotify/DJ service before and after our sets.
Our favourite gigs has been at events where we could see a positive impact of our playing. We played at an after hours event for a small music festival in Wiltshire, seeing those there truly lean into the atmosphere and enjoy the music will always be a highlight for us.
We are all influenced by a variety of jazz musicians including Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Keith Jarret. We also love soul from classic artists such as Bill Withers and we enjoy incorporating songs like "Ain't no sunshine" into our set.
We have all bene playing in the Jazz club circuit for five years as individuals and begun to play together in that time in a variety of different bands and line ups. As we all enjoyed playing together so much we formed the band and have been playing throughout the UK and Europe ever since.
We love to play events that require a sophisticated background to set the mood of the party. We love to play at private parties and especially weddings, we enjoy doing out best to make an event truly special.
We will normally arrive at least an hour and a half before the performance to set up and conduct a quick soundcheck. We usually perform 2 x 60minute sets, we are happy to play for longer or shorter depending on the needs of the event but we find these set times suit our audiences best for their needs.
We are very happy to perform outside as long as we have access to power and enough space to set up.
We are very happy to cater the set list to specific requests before the event and can add up to 10 songs to the repertoire. Clients are also welcome to choose from our repertoire or leave the set list to us.
Previous clients have described us as a perfect background to a private party and that we incorporate modern tunes with jazz classics to that provide the perfect tone to events. Previous clients have always been impressed with our professional and cheerful attitude partnered with our eagerness to cater what we play to suit the tone of the event.
The band's usual set up consists of a quartet comprising a singer, double bass, piano and drums. We can also perform as a duo or as a solo act.
As well as a quartet we can add more musicians such as a horn section including a saxophone and trumpet
The SJCollective has played throughout clubs in London and the South of England. Our members have played at Ronnie Scott's the 606 club and Cadogan Hall to name a few.
