Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

I can bring my own portable PA if venue is small to medium sized. If venue is large then I require a PA system to be in place.
I require to be near a plug socket, and a small table would be useful (though not essential).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

One of my best gigs was singing at The Dorchester Hotel. The whole experience was great from start to finish, and I even got praise from the event's main speaker, Stephen Fry!
At the moment I really enjoy singing monthly at Larry's Bar (National Portrait Gallery) with the amazing jazz pianist James Elliot Quinn. Larry's Bar is stylish, has a good sound setup, great staff, friendly guests, and I love the atmosphere.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

I am influenced by the crooners of the 40s, 50s and 60s who sang the Great American Songbook. Unsurprisingly my favourite singer is Frank Sinatra. However I am a huge fan of (and can sing in the styles of..) Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jnr, Bobby Darin, Andy Williams, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, and Matt Monro.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I was a choral scholar at the prestigious Wells Cathedral School in Somerset. I then trained at the famous London drama school Mountview Academy. At both places I had exceptional singing teachers that taught me all the techniques I use today!
I started singing professionally as soon as I went to University aged 18. I tried working behind the bar, but wasn't very good, so I started singing in bars instead! That led to gigs in restaurants, hotels, weddings, corporate events, festivals, and much more!
I've now been singing professionally for over 25 years.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I honestly love singing at all my different and varied events. Every event, be it a wedding, birthday party, corporate event etc, brings with it something new; the location, the building, the guests, the vibe, it's always different and that's what makes it so much fun to do what I do. I love singing at all events!

What has been your best review?

The late great jazz songwriting legend, Fran Landesman, whose songs have been sung by artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Bette Midler and Barbra Streisand, once said that I was a "Frank Sinatra for this age".
I have such huge admiration for Fran and her work that this has always meant the most to me!

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Setup 15 mins if solo or duo. 25 mins setup if with band.

Set times: 45 mins a set. Standard price includes up to two sets. Can perform for up to 4 sets.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, I'm happy to perform outside. I need access to a power supply (I bring an extension lead with me) and preferably some kind of covering... if it's likely to rain!

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Yes, clients can suggest songs, and if they are not on my list, I am happy to learn them, as long as there is enough notice time for me to learn them properly and get the backing tracks (or have my band learn them), so I'd say at least a week (or two) depending on how many new songs are suggested.
However my set list is very extensive, so if it's Sinatra/Rat Pack/Crooners/Elvis, then chances are I already have it!
Don't forget I can also sing outside those genres, as I also sing Beatles, David Bowie, Rolling Stones etc.
So feel free to suggest songs from other genres if you so wish.
