I just need a standard power socket and an allocated space. If I'm playing outside then I need level ground (or the speaker stand will be unstable!) and some kind of cover, especially when it's very hot.
All the sound equipment that I need is provided so you don't have to worry about that. I generally don't need lighting equipment for my act but I do own some professional lighting and if you'd like me to bring it, just let me know.
Usually it's pretty straight forward and I can liaise with the venue directly, but having a parking space relatively near where I'm going to be playing is a good thing.
Recorded background music during any breaks that I take is always provided for you.
Having been a full time professional musician for well over 25 years means that I have played in some stunning venues. A memorable gig was when a client flew me out to Sicily and I played at the Belmond Grand Hotel which was absolutely gorgeous.
Stan Getz is one of my heroes, as is Paul Desmond who are both sax legends. I'm also a huge fan of Miles Davis's minimalist and effortless way of playing.
The saxophone is a huge part of my life and has been since I was in my 20's. I started gigging in a London soul band and I've been playing ever since.
All events are my favorite because I get to share my passion for my instrument with people.
Arriving 1 hour before I'm due to start playing is a minimum standard for me. It only take 15 minutes to set up but I don't like to rush. I perform sets of up to 50 minutes, so I play from 1 to 4 sets depending on my clients needs.
Yes, as long as I have cover in the summer because my equipment can overheat if it's in direct sunlight for many hours. If it's a winter setting then playing outside may not be possible, as a saxophone player if the muscles in my face get too cold it makes it impossible to play.
My clients can have as much input into my song choices as they like, baring in mind that I'm a jazz/funk/swing/ bluesy kind of player so heavy metal or bluegrass requests are unlikely to be played.
In all the gigs I've ever done, which is thousands, everyone has really enjoyed the music that I play.
