Sarah began to learn the harp with Anita Aslin and Frank Sternefeld before attending the Royal Northern College of Music under the tutelage of Eira Lynn Jones, graduating with BMus (Hons).
During her time at the RNCM, Sarah was selected for the BBC Philharmonic Professional Experience Scheme, as principle harpist in the resident orchestra at the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte (Montepulciano), RNCM Opera Orchestra, and to play in orchestras at Bridgewater Hall, BBC Studios (Salford Quays) and Wigmore Hall. Sarah was also awarded the Dianne Bolton Prize for Salon Music in 2011. As a member of the dynamic RNCM Harp Ensemble, Sarah played at the Natural History Museum and Baltic Art Gallery, and in 2008 she was honoured to be one of 60 harpists to perform at HRH Prince Charles’ 60th Birthday celebrations.
Back home in Saltburn-by-the-sea, Sarah enjoys an eclectic freelance career, frequently playing for weddings and other functions. She regularly works with St Cecilia Orchestra, Leeds Symphony Orchestra, Huddersfield Philharmonic Orchestra, Cleveland Chamber and Philharmonic orchestras and Ripon and Wetherby Choral Societies. She has also made two recordings with Sir Richard Bonynge (Victorian Opera Northwest). Sarah has performed Mozart’s Concerto for Flute, Harp and Orchestra, and given recitals for Lupus UK Annual Conference 2013, Long Newton Music, and Classical Café (Middlesbrough Town Hall). She also enjoys doing “Mini Concerts for Mini People” as part of Middlesbrough Council’s music education programme, and playing for the residents of Hazelgrove Court Care Home in Saltburn. In 2016 Sarah collaborated with The Valley Players on Keeping the Feast, a new play by Djenane Watkins, and was awarded the Adjudicator’s Cup in the preliminary round of the All England Theatre Festival for her music.
In addition to performing, Sarah teaches privately and at Yarm School, giving one-to-one lessons, and directing chamber groups and the school’s award-winning harp ensemble.
