About / Biography

RJL, or Rhys Lewis, is a 21 year old musician originally from Somerset in England. Having just graduated a 3 year course in songwriting through a London University, he is equipped with the knowledge and the stage presence needed for all kinds of social events, and is truly excited to have more opportunities to perform.

Strongest Attributes:

Impressive vocal range and pleasing tone

Commitment and speed learning requested songs

Conversationalist/ more extroverted

Past experiences include a few weddings booked from being noticed while out busking in his home town. Both couples were overjoyed with his performances, with one Bride saying she "saw the wedding planner crying " along with the bride's newly-wed husband after a requested rendition of his favourite Bob Dylan song.

Another event was a succesful charity gig for "Globals make some noise" event where he recieved touching feedback from the guests for his own compositions and helped raise nearly £2,000.

This is an artist who is prepared to learn any requested songs for a reasonable fee , has a good back catalogue of covers plus original music, and who isn't afraid to poke some fun at himself while on the stage too!

He also has connections with other musicians that can be hired upon request for a fee, such as a skilled violin player/ pianist.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

The best gig I've ever performed was as a duo with my producer playing his violin alongside my acoustic guitar and lead vocals. It was a fully original set list supporting an artist named George Croucher on his tour. Our set opened the London show, and we received really touching feedback from audience members and George's management team, who commended us on our songs and our professionalism.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Influenced by standard pop musicians such as Ed Sheeran and George Ezra; Ed has a fantastic stage presence and is very open about his journey with audiences. George Ezra is inspiring due to his passion for music and not being afraid to try new genres and styles. Favourite artist would have to be Ben Howard; he creates such beautiful guitar fingerpicking patterns that correlate perfectly with his vocals. I'd urge you to listen to "Keep your head up" if you are unaware of his music! As for my favourite song though, it would have to be 'another love' by Tom Odell. The choir harmonies coming into the post-chorus are absolutely stunning , and the piano part is very catchy.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Started my performing journey playing guitar at school and being a part of the choir. Progressed onto mini venues and took part in a few local talent competitions aged 14. After that, I discovered a love of busking just before lockdown which led to being booked to play weddings and eventually recording and releasing original music across streaming platforms.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

Love playing all events but being a part of a wedding is always exciting! It's an honour to be trusted to help out with such an important milestone in someone's life.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Would aim to arrive at least an hour before the gig starts, if not earlier. Set up and soundcheck very quick for 'solo' and only 10-15mins for 'duo.' Will leave time to greet clients professionally and open to stick around afterwards or leave depending on clients preference. Comfortable with performing 2x 45min sets but can shorten this if requested. 45 min sets and other time slots available upon request through a free quotation.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Happy to perform outside, would appreciate some cover and a power supply for the 'duo' sets.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Strive to learn any song for events but would require 2 weeks notice plus a small fee of £5 per 'solo' request and £10 for a 'duo' request.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous clients would describe RJL as a fun, charismatic performer with a great vocal. Perfect for both background music gigs and front of stage shows. The 'duo' sets are likewise, but tend to generate quite emotional performances , especially with the violin accompaniment and harmony vocals.
