Solo Piano Music
Pete is a piano player with 40 years’ experience and is able to perform a wide range of high quality live solo piano music at Weddings, Functions or other Events or in Restaurants and Bars. Covering many musical genres from classical, ragtime, jazz, blues, standards, rock ‘n’ roll, pop, rock, soul, indie, T.V. and film music and more, this makes him easily adaptable to the requirements for any live music environment. Pete has performed at various hotels, restaurants and bars mainly around the North West of England, but also internationally.
Notably, Pete performed live piano music during a scene in the last episode of the third series of the highly acclaimed BBC TV series 'Peaky Blinders'.
Wide Repertoire / Song Requests
Pete can perform solo piano music to accompany a Wedding Ceremony, Champagne Reception, indoors or outdoors (weather permitting) as well as during the Wedding Breakfast or as part of the Evening Reception. Whatever you have planned for your Wedding Day or Event, there is always scope for your guests to enjoy some quality live piano music. Having a very wide repertoire of music covering well over 100 years of popular music, Pete can play a mixture of background music and lively tunes that suit the environment and setting, without ever being intrusive. Pete will consult with you well in advance to discuss all the options available and the type of music you may hear. If you have any special requests for songs to be played on the day, Pete is usually able to accommodate this with sufficient notice, often producing his own music arrangements.
Portable Piano / Rental Options
Pete is able to bring his own portable, top professional quality Yamaha digital piano which sounds like a real acoustic grand piano when amplified. This allows the set up to be made in a small space and the volume to be kept as low as required. If you prefer an acoustic piano to be used and your preferred venue does not have a suitable instrument, Pete has several contacts that can provide competitive quotes for the hire of various grand piano or upright piano models.
Vocal Accompaniment / Duo or Trio Options
Whilst Pete can be utilised as a solo pianist during your Event, he can also accompany Vocalist & Guitarist Tricia McTeague, who is very experienced at performing a wide variety of popular songs at Weddings and Functions. Please get in touch to make an enquiry about availability. Note that Tricia is always in very high demand so you will need to book well in advance to secure her services at your event.
Please note that Pete is also an accomplished guitarist which means that he can accompany Tricia on both piano and guitar, adding extra colour and depth to their live music offering at your Event.
In addition, Pete and Tricia can join together with another talented male singer/guitarist to form a trio capable of covering a wide musical repertoire for any event.
New duo option
Pete has formed a duo with a talented and experienced vocalist, Heidi-Anne, able to provide live music entertainment for any function, wedding ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfasts etc. Pete & Heidi-Anne are performing live at venues in Manchester, covering an extensive, wide repertoire from jazz, standards, pop, soul, rock, ballads and more. In this format, Heidi-Anne sings lead vocals and Pete plays piano or guitar.
Based in Widnes, Cheshire
Pete’s repertoire covers thousands of songs from hundreds of years’ worth of music, which is constantly being added to.
Multiple genres are covered including classical, ragtime, jazz, blues, rock ‘n’ roll, rock, soul, pop, Latin, folk, indie, alternative, T.V and film music etc.
Almost anything goes with regards to what is feasible to play - if any song has a strong melody or a good harmonic structure, it is usually possible to play a solo piano version of it. Not every song is realistically a suitable choice for a piano solo.
If you need some special songs performing at your event, please get in touch in advance. If Pete doesn’t already know the songs, he may be able to find the sheet music for them or figure out his own arrangement.
Parking access close to the performance area to load in equipment.
Space sufficient for a digital stage piano, keyboard stool, music stand, keyboard amplifier.
Additional space will naturally be required when performing as a duo or trio (including space for small PA speakers, monitor, small mixing desk, mic stand)
Electrical power sockets
Changing room
Piano amplifier / PA equipment can be provided
Number One Question for a Pianist - does the venue have a piano that can be used during the event?
Parking access needs to be as close as possible considering the movement of heavy equipment.
Where is the event room location in relation to the access point? Is it on the ground floor? Does equipment need to be lifted up any stairs? Are there lifts? Is there any equipment such a trolleys at the venue that can be used to move equipment?
How long before the start time can the equipment set up begin?
Yes - Spotify music via an iPad through the PA (assuming there is a suitable Wi-Fi connection at the venue)
It's impossible to say which gig was the best because they are all so unique and individually special for every wedding and event party. Certainly, the best location I ever played at was the concert room at St. George's Hall in Liverpool, playing a Steinway Grand Piano for a very nice wedding.
Too many to mention - I'm influenced by many artists from classical music, to blues, soul, rock, pop, indie and beyond
I have been playing piano from an early age and have performed in pubs, restaurants, bars, hotels and for weddings and events for decades. As a guitarist, I've played in bands stretching back to the early 1990's.
At a wedding, it would be the drinks reception or wedding breakfast (or both, as I've often done!) because this allows me to showcase a very wide variety of music with something for everyone to enjoy, plus of course additional requests.
Similarly, for other events where I would entertain guests for 2, 3 or even 4 hours.
I enjoy performing at public venues such as restaurants, bars and hotels as I create a unique atmosphere for the environment which I know that guests fully appreciate.
When using a portable digital piano, set up can take up to one hour depending on the nature of the load-in and the ease of access to the performance area.
Performance times vary according to your specific requirements but may typically feature 3 x 45 minutes or 2 x 70 minutes of live solo piano music. Additional performance times allowing the provision of up to 3 or 4 hours of solo piano music is feasible (for additional costs). Alternatively, a short solo piano music set (up to 1 hour) can be provided, where there is already a suitable piano at the Event Venue. Should you wish to have solo piano music to accompany a wedding ceremony, then later during the reception / wedding breakfast, costs will vary according to the timings and specific location requirements. Please get in touch directly to discuss this in more detail.
If you would like to utilise the option of a high quality female vocalist/guitarist to accompany Pete, this can be arranged in addition to a solo piano performance, if required. Please get in touch for further details and costs.
I have performed outside at weddings, weather dependent. Ideally, cover/shade is required. Safe electrical power connection is necessary for digital piano equipment.
My repertoire can extend to thousands of songs. There is never a set repertoire for gigs where I play solo piano to accompany an event, drinks reception, wedding breakfast etc. Clients can ask for any songs they like. It should be beforehand so that I can obtain the music, where possible. It should be understood that not every song is realistically feasible to play as a piano solo effectively and this is easily discussed beforehand.
Naturally, for a wedding ceremony, specific songs for the entrance, signing and exit will be agreed upon.
When performing as a duo or trio with vocals, of course, there will be a prepared repertoire and the option to request a few songs in advance.
You can read the feedback here on LMM. Clients typically say how they loved the wide variety of music that I played, that I made their event so perfect, that I created such a beautiful, classy atmosphere that guests would remember for a very long time. Clients have told me that they wished I could have carried on playing, even after 3 or 4 hours!
