About / Biography

Over the last few years, I have spent a lot of time (& money) setting up my new venture.
This was completed in May 2017 and I now go out on my own with an amazing BOSE p.a system and backing tracks.
I love this as I can play music across all genres for any occasion, be it an Ibiza-style birthday party, a Glenn Miller evening, a pop-based wedding, or a club-type event, freestyling with a DJ.

I am concentrating on birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and other special occasions now to give you the perfect day you wished for.
I want to make your day/evening unique for you and will find, write and arrange any music for your special occasion.

During the last five years, I have played extensively for some of the world's largest cruise companies with numerous contracts for P & O, Holland America, RCCL, and Carnival. This entails backing west end style shows, world-famous singers, and cabaret acts.

In 2013 I played for the show Chicago. The show is a tough multi doubling chair, incorporating tenor & soprano saxes, clarinet, and piccolo.

Up to 2011 apart from performing with the Joe Loss Orchestra I worked with various big bands, played for theatre productions in musicals such as “The Light in the Piazza”, “The Wild Party”, “Parade”, “Annie”, “Guys n Dolls” and many more.
I have recorded with my own band and for others.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

I require a covered, dry area with electricity and am even able to play without if it is a small venue/few people.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, I have 3 different professional PA (speaker) systems. Each one designed for specific things, ie outdoors/large gatherings/small jazz settings etc.
My lights are also top of the range, Chauvet GigBAR 2. These can fill any room with a vast selection of lights which can be set to work with sound!

What information do you require about a venue?

I need to know the exact location, not just a postcode. If tricky to find please give me directions.
I require a rough size of venue OR approximate number of people it holds. This is so I bring the correct PA system.
If the gig is outside I will need covering such as a gazebo or suchlike. Sun &/or rain will stop my equipment from running.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, no problem. I will play your chosen music in between my sets and for a reasonable fee I will stay after my allotted performance time, up to a max of 2 hours or 2am.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

I don’t like to boast… but I have played a few gigs all over the world. I have played with Tom Jones/Joe Loss Orchestra/Royal Philharmonic Orchestra amongst others and have played hundreds of times at Buckingham Palace, Wembley, Twickenham, Ronnie Scott’s as well as performing for musicals here and in the US. (Wild Party/Chicago/Annie/Parade/Light In The Piazza/Grease
I played for the Secretary of State’s daughter’s wedding in New Deli a few years ago. That was amazing! The band I played with were treated like royalty at the palace.
I have also played for all the major cruise lines (RCCL/Holland America/P&O/Carnival/Saga & Cunard)
I think I’m boasting now…sorry! Ha ha

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Phil Woods-The greatest alto player ever…in my opinion!
Greatest song-His version of Cheek To Cheek…check it out!

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

It would take too long but briefly..
Musician in the army-1980-94
Musician freelance 94-present, incorporating:
Joe Loss Orchestra
Musicals (over 100)
Cruise ships
Corporate bookings
Recording (mine & others)
EDM playing with DJ’s 2021-present
I started “gigging” after 2 years of playing for the Army. I needed to be heard and stretched. The Army wasn’t what I wanted but a great stepping stone.
I then started gigging with various pub bands where I learnt so much about unwritten music. Loved it…& still do!

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I love playing so I don’t have a favourite event.
I do enjoy playing for people who love to listen to music.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Arrival: 2 hours before the performance
Set up: 1 hour before
I can play up to 4 x forty five minute sets with a short break in between.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, I can perform outside and I don’t require power if the gig is under 10 hours!
I do require a covering and reasonably level ground.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I can send you my ‘Songlist’ which has 730 songs, covering most genres.
If you want something specific that’s also not a problem.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Here are a few reviews in the last 4 weeks or so:
Kelvin was excellent and started off the evening for all our guests as they arrived. I would recommend him and would book him again Thank you
Kelvin was a fantastic addition to our drinks reception!
Kevin was excellent, great communicator, punctual, professional and one hell of a sax player - would recommend!
