A performance space with with standard plug sockets is usually enough. If providing my own equipment, a space to park near the performance area for unloading would be great. If using the venue's equipment, a liaison with the venue's technical team to plug in, set up and quickly check sound would be preferred. If performing outside, access to shelter from poor weather would be beneficial to my equipment as well as myself.
I do have my own sound equipment that I am happy to provide. A simple lighting rig can be provided for a small supplementary charge.
I am also very happy to utilise the venue's own equipment, or plug my own microphone and/or music into their rig.
A best point of contact on arrival (eg. event manager, co-ordinator, technical manager)
The best place to park and to access the venue, and any directions that typical sat-navs might not offer up.
If there is a sound limiter, that is good to know as well.
Yes, we’re happy to play music from Spotify before and between our sets. The client can provide playlists if they would like to.
The most memorable venue would probably be headlining an open air arena event in Greece, where we couldn't even see the back of the crowd and everyone was having the best time all night! But the most memorable gig would have to be my own wedding, performing with my friends, to my very nearest and dearest.
Stevie Wonder is amazing: I could sing Superstition in every single set I perform and be a happy man. But I love the smooth sounds of classic Rat Pack and Michael Buble, as well as the cathartic nature of singing some big rock numbers, either classic or contemporary. I challenge any audience not to sing along to "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen!
I trained in Musical Theatre originally, but it was when I first started working on cruise ships , performing a different show each night, when I realised the importance and excitement of versatility, and embracing different genres! Swing, rock and roll, classical, party sets and more: I love mixing it up and it has paid off. Since returning to land I have performed at hundreds of events and parties as a soloist, as well as part of groups and bands.
I love a wedding! Everyone is already in a good mood and ready for a good time before we've even begun. It is a pleasure and a privilege to be part of someone's special day.
Set up is usually very quick, usually within the hour to put it all together, sound check and get ready to go. Always happy to give more time if preferred, and can often do it in less time if required.
Depending on the gig, I find 2 sets between 30-45 mins work best, but I am flexible with this.
As long as the technical equipment is protected and there is a power supply close by, I am very happy to perform outdoors.
Requests are always welcome, of course the sooner the better. It may not be possible to learn a multitude of songs, but I have an extensive repertoire, and always happy to add to it!
I have been complimented on my ability to read a room and give them what they want. They might want to party and dance and get involved, which I am very happy to deliver. Alternatively it could be a 'quietly appreciative' crowd, and I am equally confident in providing some more relaxed, background vibes.
