2 hour set | £150 |
Bob Dylan solo tribute act, sings, plays guitar and harmonica on Dylan songs over the years. I also play covers from the 50s onwards, some well known, others that I like and enjoy. My usual set is about 2 hours with a 10 minute break. Although I usually like to play just a Bob Dylan set, I can do a first half of Dylan only, followed by a second of covers, if required. I have been playing live for 15 years now in London and beyond. I have played festivals, benefits, BBQs, birthdays, parties, art galleries and shopping centres, social clubs, music venues and pubs. I have played in bands and duos in the past and still do, though I like solo performance too - it's a different vibe! My pa is a dual acoustic 50W amp, so both vocals and guitar go through that. I use public transport as I can carry all I need; guitar, leads, mic, stand, amp. I prefer London therefore, as you're never far from a station though can travel beyond if it's not too far or expensive to travel and public transport is nearby. I have a weekly residency in a local social club, I play a local retirees club regularly and have even played at a local politician's election campaign launch! My price for the 2 hours set is £150 and set up time is 20-30 minutes. If outdoors, I require cover if poor weather and access to a plug socket; I'll need that indoors as well.

I generally play Travis picking or, as I call it, Travis hybrid... a mix of Travis alternate thumb bass with strum and palm muting.
Many... Dublin Castle in Camden, East Dulwich Tavern, Croydon Folk & Blues Festival, The Ship in Wardour St, The Oval Tavern in Croydon... so many others... a 60th birthday in Guildford...
Obviously His Bobness- too many great songs... Others would (deep breath) be; The Byrds, both Elvisess, Aretha, Gram P... punk... the list goes on...
I learned to play guitar young, then learned to sing when I got more confident. I was brought up in a musical family so it's always been part of what I am. About 20 years ago I stepped in front of a mic with my guitar and haven't stopped. The Dylan thing came about because no-one else appeared to be doing it... at the time!
Like them all, though if I had to choose, like most musicians, I'd go for a Festival. But love pubs, music venues and club halls also.
20-30 minutes set up and sound check.
Outside is good, power and cover, like a gazebo and flooring if wet of course.
From my set list, though I'd prefer my own order.
Well, I once supported a guy who had another gig as a singer and guitarist for a well known tribute act band. He encouraged me to press on with the Dylan act; he said he'd never come across one in his career. Others seem to commend me on the fact that I don't need a lyric sheet, not that there's anything wrong with singing read lyrics. It's really a matter of phrasing with Dylan, so it helps to know (some of) the words.
