Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

For quiet, intimate environments I only need space to stand alongside my microphone stand and speaker stand, but when using my full PA system I need at least 2.5 meters in width and around 1.5m in depth. For power, I can run everything from a single 13 amp power socket or for outdoor ceremonies and events away from power sources, I can use a battery-powered speaker.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

I bring my own PA system which can be as small as a single battery-powered speaker or a larger setup up to using two 12" tops and a 15" subwoofer. I have basic rig of lights to add atmosphere in darker rooms.

What information do you require about a venue?

I need to know if there's a sound limiter at the venue, or if they have permission for outdoors music if the plan is to perform outdoors. Apart from that, a venue address and someone at the venue to direct me where to set up is all that's required!

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

I can arrange for Spotify playlists to played before and between sets, or we can arrange for someone in your party to connect to my system via bluetooth and play their own music.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

The "best" gig I've played is hard to narrow down, but amongst the most memorable are: Performing on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and opening for acts such as The Fray and David Gray.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

My guitarist influences first came from classic rock like Led Zepplin and Britpop such as Oasis and Blur. After that I went through periods of studying the work of musicians in folk, blues and soul, 80s to contemporary pop. My favourite contemporary artist would probably be Hozier, but it's much harder to narrow done my influences from the 60s and 70s.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I began by playing in local bands when I was 16 and often with much older musicians. It wasn't long before I started performing solo at events and weddings, and that continued after I began touring as a session guitarist, playing in bars around the world, and working as an entertainer on cruise ships.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I don't know if I could narrow down my favourite type of event, but I love the potential variety at a wedding and my favourites will allow me to be the soundtrack to intimate moments like the ceremony but also take requests and fill the dance floor for the evening party!

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I typically arrive about an hour before the performance to set up. My preference is to divide my performance into 45/60 minute sets, but for something like a relaxed drinks reception I don't mind playing for up to 2 hrs without a break.

Are you happy to perform outside?

I'm very happy to play outside and can also be completely battery-powered if necessary. Just be mindful of the need for cover when dealing with British weather!

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I'm happy to just play whatever I feel is appropriate on the day, but it sometimes helps to get a short list of a clients favourite songs from my repertoire to get an idea of the vibe we're going for and also to make sure I don't leave out any songs that are important to you or your guests! I can learn a specific song for you or a couple of songs if given enough time and particularly enjoy learning something special for as you walk down the aisle or for your first dance.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

I've received lots of wonderful feedback from my clients over the years: "his voice and professionalism were second to none," "He was great fun and his voice and song choices were wonderful," "Everyone was raving about him, he did a brilliant set and was faultless, including doing our first dance song. Would recommend one million percent." "We was extremely lucky to have him at our wedding and he completely transformed the day! Matt voice is extremely amazing and we received so many compliments on the day that he was the best singer/guitarist they have ever seen."
