Yes, we’re completely self contained. We bring our own PA system to all of our gigs as well as a simple lighting rig.
Exact venue address; access details (parking, setting-up etc); agreed set-up time.
Yes, we’re happy to play music from Apple Music (or your own playlist from your device) before, after and between our sets. We’re happy to choose the music ourselves or let the client choose the music.
Yes, totally. I have a small Bose Compact PA perfect for smaller spaces and a larger PA for more extensive venues.
Re lighting, I have a small ambient lighting rig that can be set to disco pulsing or left still in different combinations.
I also have some neon blue floor lighting strips that can separate the band from the dancefloor if there is no stage.
"You're only as good as your last gig" so the saying goes : although I have enjoyed playing (both solo and with my band) at many highly regarded venues over the years, I can honestly say there have been some wonderful moments on a number of occasions not least on several of the more bespoke engagements where there has been a real heartfelt connection between performer and audience/client.
It is something so very special when the "magic" happens - that deep connection between performer and listener in the presence of beautiful music - and I treasure this as something that validates everything I am and everything I stand for as a singer and musician. I know my musicians all feel the same, and our audiences love the interaction between us all on stage ... so in essence, I can't choose a "best gig" as they're all great!
Jazz/Swing Singers - Ella Fitzgerald/Sinatra/Bobby Darin/Peggy Lee/Nina Simone/Diana Krall/Michael Buble/Paloma Faith/Imelda May/Caro Emerald...
Female Blues/Rock/Pop Singers - Bonnie Raitt/Annie Lennox/Carol King/Etta James/Tina Turner/Aretha Franklin/Chaka Khan/Joni Mitchell/Shania Twain/Stevie Nicks/Christine McVie/Chrissie Hynde/Kirsty MacColl...
Male Blues/Rock/Pop Singers - Jackson Browne/Eric Clapton/Sting/Paul Simon/Bruce Hornsby/Stevie Wonder/Dylan/Elton John/Paul Carrack...
Greatest song of all time? How can you even begin??!!! Depends which genre/artist etc .. "I'll stand by you" Pretenders music come pretty close as a intense emotional ballad ... but then ...Elton's "Don't let the sun go down on me" also a contender..
Duffy's "Mercy" (like Amy Winehouse's iconic "Valerie" & some of the Motown classics) are also fab crowd-pleasers and get everyone in total party mood ...always up for perfoming these either solo or with my band..
(Sinatra's You make me feel so young too!)
I was apparently born singing (according to my mother)!!! I've always sung in school/church & college and learned piano from an early age (now teaching both singing & piano privately to diploma level)
First gig aged 12 in a Working Mens' Social club in Preston, Lancs. Returning to Uni to do an MA in Music Perfomance/Jazz Improvisation after having a family, I formed my first jazz band then built up a solid professional portfolio over the coming years.
Since then I have perfomed both solo (as voc/pianist & vocalist or pianist) and in various group/ensemble sizes up to Big Band for numerous concerts/functions/events/parties/weddings & more across the Uk and abroad.
I have recorded several acclaimed albums and am in the process of planning new recording projects in the near furure.
I also write my own material - often with jazz/blues/Latin influences..
Anywhere I perfom becomes THE place to be at that particular moment in time - I absolutely give everything to my audiences/clients whenever I start to sing or play and always aim to make my audiences feel good.
So I don't really mind whether it's singing to an audience of 1 or 1000 - if whoever's listening loves what I'm performing that's enough for me!! (Thankfully I've never had any tomatoes thrown at me, but always lots of compliments from satisfied clients, so I guess I'm doing something right!)
I do everything ranging from jazz/swing to classical and lots in between! Pop/Rock/Blues/Jazz/Latin hits from the 20s/30s/40s/50s/60s/70s/80s/90s/00s - present ..
Usually I accompany myself on my Yamaha keyboard (and use a vocal harmony pedal on my Pop & Rock material) but I'm also fine with singing to backing tracks if that's my client's preference - I sometimes start off with my keyboard in the first half of a gig then ramp things up in the second half . I did this last NYE and found the audience enjoyed dancing & singing along to the Abba/Fleetwood Mac & Disco tracks.
I also performed an Ella Fitzgerald tribute a while back in the same way, performng to Big Band tracks in the 2nd Half - very effective and hugely enjoyed!
At least 45 mins setup, 2 x 45 min or 2 x 60' sets. Longer sets possible, subject to negotiation. Happy to continue beyond agreed time if applicable wherever possible for added mutually agreed fee.
Happy to perform outside but always ask for basic overhead covering (gazebo/small marqee or similar), flat surface, access to power supply easily reached via extension lead etc (we have power-breaker extension reel)
Happy to learn new material if required - there may be a small surcharge if several particular unknown songs are reqested due to extra rehearsal time incurred. To be discussed on an individual basis.
Clients are most welcome to choose anything from our repertoire or alternatively, give me an idea of your favourite type of artists/songs and I'll see what I can put together for your special event!
"Hypnotised and beguiled we sure were: the power of song in the hands of a pro!"
"The music was excellent and I highly recommend Julie and saxophonist Ben for a tribute we will always remember."
"Great, very professional and fun."
"Wonderful from start to finish. Julie was so helpful and able to help me out really last minute. I was very grateful."
" Julie was absolutely lovely. She was friendly, professional and I even had one person say to me that they thought the band was playing to a recording of someone singing until they came in and saw it was Julie singing - what a magnificent voice. Great song choice and it was lovely to see them enjoy themselves whilst playing."
Dealing with Julie was an absolute delight from start to finish. She made everything easy and knew musically exactly what we wanted: an absolutely sublime hour of music! It was greatly enjoyed by everybody that day . The quality of musicianship was excellent & I cannot recommend her and her colleagues highly enough."
I usually base my gigs on 2 x 45-60' sets with a break.
Happy to negotiate longer playing time if required with appropriate breaks etc.
Having said that, I sometimes suggest playing solo for a wedding ceremony or drinks reception, then bringing in more musicians later in the day for the evening celebration (this requires mutually agreed fee, taking into account "hanging about" time!)
