That's a tough question. I've played some great festivals such as the Wickerman (RIP), Tiree Music Festival, Blueballs Festival in Luzern Switzerland, King Tuts Wah Wah Hut, and lots of fantastic venues all over Scotland, mainland and islands. I love a great party where everyone is there to have a good time!
These are good dating questions. My taste is so eclectic and I continue to be influenced by new voices and sounds. This makes my sets really fun because I have a knack for mixing in fantastic songs from across all the genres. It's great to play with songs that wouldn't typically follow each other, but still somehow keep the energy going!! I can't choose a favourite artist or song, but my favourite album of all time is Appetite For Destruction by Guns N Roses.
My parents put me into the theatre when I was in primary school. I started playing rock concerts in secondary school, then when I was old enough, in a bunch of bands in rock clubs. I went to London to study music and play in bands. Some agencies got interested in me and I ended up playing all over the world for a bit, now tend to concentrate mostly, but not exclusively, on gigs all over Scotland, from Gretna Green to the Isle of Lewis!
I love a good pub gig vibe still. I tend to bring a bit of that with me to any gig. Of course festivals and concert halls are great too. But I think I prefer something a little more intimate personally. I don't mind people getting a bit over enthusiastic, as long as its all in good spirits and people feel good and come together in appreciation of music. It never ceases to amaze me just how many people are passionate about music. Even if someone doesn't like one particular song that I love, I still appreciate their passion!
I like to have an hour to set up. I can do it in 40 mins at a push. Same for pack down. As a soloist, I can sing for up to about three hours, taking a short break after each hour. That would be 3 x 50 minute sets, at most :)
I love outside gigs. I would probably need cover, just in case of rain, a flat level surface, and a power supply.
I don't mind the odd request at all. I make my set up as I go along, on the day, pulling form around 400 songs that I know. I have a very good knack for feeling what song to play next, so too many requests can become problematic. I know and love that people are passionate about their favourite music, so I always try to work in requests as best as I can!
Previous clients usually want me back again, for anniversaries and birthdays, or just parties in general. What people tend to love is the way I mix in songs from a broad selection of genres. I'm told they are always wondering what I am going to play next, and keep surprising them with old and new hits that you wouldn't expect to hear following each other!
