About / Biography

J G is a singer-songwriter and musician from London with over 10 years of performance experience and a degree in music. He predominantly plays upbeat covers from the the 50s all the way up until the present day with a huge amount of energy and performance skills that were sculpted after hundreds of performances.

JG has over 10 years of experience of playing at weddings and events. He’s played at all sections of wedding days and is well-versed in playing music in the background for drinks and meals as well as making sure that everyone is singing and dancing along at evening parties! He’s more than happy to personalise his services to suit your unique event - he will always happily learn new songs for you, and has even done this in other languages in the past (so you’re in luck if you’re looking for some 90s Turkish music!) He doesn’t believe in charging extra for learning new songs.

His abilities as a singer-songwriter bleed into his covers work - he specialises in ‘live lounge’ style covers of huge pop songs, which surprise and delight listeners frequently. If you see Joe live, you’ll definitely hear some songs as you’ve never heard them before! He always keeps his set upbeat though.

He’s also got considerable experience playing at surprise events such as proposals, and he takes particular pride in the organisational element of these to ensure that everyone is happy with the result - and he has a 100% record when it comes to the bride saying yes!*

Alongside playing at events, Joe is still a keen songwriter and artist. In his career so far, he has:

- Been played on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6numerous times with his ‘Garvie’ project
- Headlined Ronnie Scott’s, Notting Hill Arts Club and Kensington Roof Gardens
- Played live on stage with Maroon 5!

*Unfortunately, Joe can’t guarantee this result.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

1x power socket, 2x2m of space and rain cover for my top-of-the-range amplification. That's it!

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

I provide top-of-the-range amplification which means you'll hear what I'm playing comfortably and in really high quality. I don't provide lighting as standard, but I can provide it for an extra fee.

What information do you require about a venue?

I need to know directions, where to load my equipment and if there's a sound limiter in place. It's no problem if there is - I just need to know so that I know how to avoid setting it off. I regularly play at venues with limiters in place!

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes I can play music from Spotify before, after and in-between sets - I can make a playlist for you, or you can provide one to me.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

I've played a number of brilliant gigs - I've played at a destination wedding in the Amalfi Coast which was beautiful, and I've also played live on stage with Maroon 5 which was unforgettable! Venues like Ronnie Scott's, Wilton's Music Hall and Kensington Roof Gardens were also brilliant places to play.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I started gigging as a singer-songwriter - I played hundreds of gigs in this capacity around London, and my songwriting creativity bleeds into the way that I interpret songs now as a function entertainer - I like to put my own spin on things whilst keeping everything really upbeat.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I love all sort of events but weddings are definitely a favourite - it's always such a privilege to be made a part of someone's big day, and the guests are always brilliant fun.

What do you do when you're not performing at weddings and events?

Outside of my work at weddings and events, I'm a composer. I write and produce all of my own music - this has lead to my music being played on BBC Radio 1 (I've been interviewed by Jack Saunders and played by him numerous times), BBC Radio 6, Radio X and more. I've also had my music played on TV in shows like Made In Chelsea, Take Me Out and others.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

1 hour to set up (in a room where he can check equipment at full volume).

Are you happy to perform outside?

I'm more than happy to play outside but I do need shade or rain cover and a power supply.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Personalisation is really important to me – I want to ensure that your day is as unique and special as your events and relationships are. I’m more than happy to learn new songs for you to make sure you hear any particular favourites – I’ve even learned songs in other languages before (so if you want to hear some Turkish music from the 90s, you’re in luck).

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

They'd say that I'm a high level performer with a huge amount of energy, that I engage crowds really well and that I never fail to get the crowd going (or to provide the right ambience if that's more what you're after). On the organisational side, they'd say that I'm thorough in my planning and that I'm very fast to respond.
