Solo piano for up to 3 hours | £175 |
Iain is an extremely versatile pianist, fluent in a wide range of repertoire of all different styles, with a wealth of experience performing for wedding ceremonies, drinks receptions, dinner parties and all manner of occasions. Classically trained at The Royal Academy of Music and The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire he is also a self taught jazz pianist who worked for several years on cruise ships including P&O and Carnival. Iain now performs regularly with his own group Grandma's Biscuit Tin who play jazz standards and originals with a retro feel, as well as featuring in the personnel of The Nick Ross Orchestra.
Iain has an extensive repertoire of well known pop, jazz and classical favourites at his fingertips and is available to play for any occasion, either as a soloist or as an accompanist. Iain uses a top of the range Roland RD700NX stage piano and amplifier which has an extremely realistic piano sound. (Samples on this webpage were recorded on this machine.) Use of this equipment is included in any quote. Of course if a suitable piano is available at the venue he will be very happy to play it!
*Singers* - if you are looking for an accompanist at short notice give Iain a call, he's an excellent sight-reader of all genres and also has the facility to record at home. Iain works in the weekdays accompanying singing actors at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Acting Department so is particularly familiar with a vast array of Musical Theatre repertoire.

Sound amplification can be provided. I don't need or bring lighting equipment.
Venue location and parking information is useful.
I can play some suitable background music through my amplifier to cover any breaks (assuming I'm using my own electric piano setup).
The best gig I've ever done.. that's tricky! I wouldn't like to pin it down to any specific occasion to be honest. The gigs I have particularly enjoyed recently have been with my 5-piece band Grandma's Biscuit Tin, usually to a small audience of family and friends. When you know everyone in the crowd then it always feels friendly and special.
I would say I am most influenced by pianist singer-songwriters like Elton John, Billy Joel and Stevie Wonder. I enjoy performing music that is piano focused (obviously) and generally prefer classics and songs from the 30s to 70s, and things with a jazzy feel, though there are some great songs that have been written more recently too. I love playing golden-age music by composers such as Cole Porter and George Gershwin also - those songs will never fade. The greatest song of all time? That's impossible to answer!
I was classically trained, playing a lot of Chopin and Bach for instance, but I always played pop and jazz music for fun aswell. After doing a degree in music and studying composition at The Royal Academy of Music I needed some adventure and took a job working on cruise ships for a couple of years. I realised at this time that I thrive on variety, playing all styles of music, and also play much better in a relaxed environment such as in a theatre, jazz venues, and for weddings and drinks events rather than classical recitals. So since then I have combined this work with teaching and accompanying for other people.
I love playing at events where everyone is there to enjoy themselves and have a good time, its as simple as that! I love that I can contribute to people's enjoyment of their occasion with my musical performance.
30 mins setup
If cover is available then yes.
I welcome suggestions for repertoire - genres, artists or specific songs, as long as the music is published and accessible online. I am a capable transcriber for music that isn't published but there would be an additional charge for transcription services.
I've usually been described as being professional and creating a beautiful atmosphere with the music I play.
