The cello is a charismatic, emotional, and evocative instrument that can turn an event, function or gathering, however large or intimate into something really special.
I am classically trained at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, a teacher, performer, improvisor and composer. I can bring a flexible, sensitive and tailor-made feel to your event. I am well versed in classical repertoire, as well as folk tunes, traditional music, jazz standards and I am happy to include music of your choosing into my setlist for a wedding, art event, restaurant or gallery opening, anniversary or special occasion. I have 20 + years of performing experience and have played in places as diverse as Broadway, Galleries, touring National theatres, Concert halls, Festivals, Libraries, Clubs, Weddings, Funerals, Mountain tops and Street corners.
These are some quotes about my work:
Pyongyang Plastics- "BRILLIANT improv pieces for solo detuned cello by glorious Hannah Marshall !!!! - minimal & rhythmic & instant & also eternal !!! - first BC random-hit of the day !!! - there is a god !!!!"
DreamCraeft recommendation- “Ask your ears :] Exploring sonic territories and visiting musical antipodes, demonstrating an esoteric approach to instrumentation that is truly unique”-
Raul D’Gama Rose- “sublime technical abilities...she reinvents melodic lines, provides spectacular harmonic intervention”
Stuart Broomer- “Marshall's eerily evasive knit-work that simultaneously links and dissolves the myriad connections in the music...”
Dan Warburton- “with Marshall's impeccable timing and skill for finding strong yet subtle gestures... ” “..Vicious!.”
Derek taylor- “humming bird speed”
John Bivins- “Marshall is amazingly resourceful, gritty and bustling where necessary but elsewhere keening, weeping..”
Ears for eyes- “Hannah Marshall has proven herself to be a solo player of imagination and intelligence; recording an album of deceptively simple but very rewarding and hypnotic music. A series of small meals that combine in a feast for the ears and mind.”

I can play acoustic. Or use an amp and pa. This must be provided by the booker.
no
I need to know the size of the venue and how many people will attend, so that i can assess whether i need to be amplified
As I am a solo act, i don;t need much set up time. Typically I will play two 45 minute sets with a 20 minute break between.
I am happy to perform outside.
I am happy to prepare and/or arrange a specific piece for the client, this will likely require more prep time, and so may result in a slightly higher fee.
