I started playing at 4 years old, studied music at Manchester University (1977-1980), graduating with a degree in Music (Mus.B with Hons). Piano tutors included Gordon Fergus Thompson, Peter Donohoe and Kathleen Parry Jones. I also hold the Diploma in Accompaniment from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (1981) for which I studied with Clifton Helliwell, ex-head of Keyboard Studies, Royal Northern College of Music.
From 1980 I’ve worked as a freelance pianist, accompanist and rehearsal pianist, specialising in working for ballet classes, musical theatre, functions/events, period dance events (I also play harpsichord), opera and choral music.

Ooh. Now there's a question. I've played at the Fitzwilliam Museum several times (fabulous art surroundings and a Steinway grand), the Czech Embassy, the Italian Consulate.
Too many to answer, couldn't tell you my favourite song of all time because it would change from day to day - although the Beach Boys' 'God Only Knows' would be up there, as would 'Never Enough', and about a billion others. Favourite artists? Billy Joel, for one, and he's certainly an influencer, as I love his songs and his playing style. Nifty.
Been playing since I was four, so more gigs than I could shake a stick at (starting from school) and I've played at everything from church concerts, memorials, weddings, corporate events, musical theatre rehearsals and shows, concerts/recitals, auditions and exams.
Weddings, but I genuinely enjoy any gig with a live audience; the feedback they give enhances everything I play.
Set up: For piano - none. For keyboard - 15 minutes.
Given decent weather (and a gazebo if possible!) yes.
They have the absolute say - in what they'd like me to play, and if there's anything they'd like me to avoid. It's their day and their event.
Expressive, beautifully played, really making the day.
Yes! I'm always happy to learn new music and songs.
Yes, providing we can liaise on the music beforehand. I'd need some extra time on the day to rehearse with them, and this would carry an additional charge of £50 per item.
