Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

As standard, we require enough space for 3 people with a small drum kit and guitars + PA if needed. We are smaller than your average band. We need at least 2 plugs for our extension leads, and usually manage to travel together in one SUV, requiring one parking space.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, we have our own PA, speakers, amps and lighting - 2 small programmed rgb stage lights, one rgb lamp and one regular floor lamp (the floor lamp is our branded Fundlewarp & The Lampshade Catchers lamp, and always comes with us!).

What information do you require about a venue?

We need to know directions to the entrance/load-in area, load-in time and start time, set lengths and whether you require us to bring PA/Speakers/Lighting. We can also do acoustic for a quieter gig with percussion instead of drums - please let us know if that is something you prefer/require.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes we can play music from our phone over the PA - we usually go with 70s/80s party but happy to play any playlist you request!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

We organise our own festival for charity 2 years now, called Boatside-A-Live, near our hometown in Aberedw.
It's not the most glamorous gig, but building our own stage, line-up, sound & lighting rig, and then filling a field full of people singing and dancing along to our music, while also raising £2000 for Mountain Rescue... That's something we are really proud of creating for our community.
The best venue we've ever played has got to be Llangoed Hall - it's the most beautiful building we've had the pleasure of playing for a wedding in! We love being a part of these meaningful events for families and it's so special to see how magical one evening can be in a place like that.
A cheeky addition but we play a lot of other pubs and venues and have to say we also love The Globe in Hay-On-Wye, it's the perfect atmosphere for our music and the soundsystem is awesome - we plan to return later this year!

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

In terms of sound and influences, Florence & The Machine, Mumford & Sons, Hozier, Vance Joy, Ben Howard - all really solid picks for our style.
But band favourites, totally different! We love 90s/2000s rock and the greatest song... probably something by Fall Out Boy or Blink-182.
A Fundlewarp set is full of 70s to now rock classics that sound like they were written by Taylor Swift or George Ezra instead.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We've all been musicians for years before we formed Fundlewarp & The Lampshade Catchers, now in our 20s/30s - we met at an open mic in Aberedw as Rory and Sophie were new to the area, and hit it off. We all share a love of the same music but also play in the same style and we all sing, it just matched up perfectly into our signature sound. Not many bands around with 3-part harmonies!
Lauren (frontwoman) has many years of experience in South Wales in various bands, Rory as a guitarist down in Brighton, and Sophie as both a drummer and singer/songwriter in Birmingham and The Midlands - we share this experience together to bring all our knowledge into one cohesive, folk-rock machine!

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

We play at a lot of different types of events, and it's hard to choose a favourite:
Rory loves the Weddings and Private events as they are always so unique, Lauren loves to play our original folk music at venues because it's so lovely to play something we wrote, and Sophie loves the holiday parks and YFC's as they are the most lively!

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We usually allow 1 hour to set up and perform 2 x 45 minutes or 2 x 60 minutes with a 15 minute break. We are happy to vary this depending on the event.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes as long as the power supply is sufficient and our equipment will not risk getting rained on.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We can learn up to 3 specific songs for the event, and we offer several genres of setlist to choose from: Rock, Pop/Pub Classics, Decades, Easy Listening, Emo, and Country (although this is more solo/duo as it's Sophie's thing).

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Upbeat and a really good time! A nostalgic blend of all your favourite songs, wrapped in a Folk & Country exterior that you can't help but get involved with - more often than not they recruit a Tambourine or Cowbell player from the crowd!
