The Fantasia Marimba Duo formed in 2008, and established a dazzling repertoire of music suitable for weddings and other special occasions. Nick and Mike met whilst studying marimba at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama; and have worked all over the UK with their freelance percussion careers, including orchestral and opera work. As a Duo they have also played in concert with guest musicians, including soprano singer Jennifer Walker and a cellist Sophie Nash.
The duo have played for weddings, concerts and functions; their unique, magical sound is perfect for any elegant settings where clients have wanted an alternative to the typical harpist or string quartet. At church weddings, the rich sound of the marimbas is particularly resonant. Fantasia Marimba Duo are often asked to play for the bridal entry as she walks down the aisle, as well as entertaining music during the signing of the register, and exit of the married couple. They have also played for drinks receptions and provided background ambience during the wedding breakfast.
The Duo's repertoire is made up of music from many genres; classical piano, chamber, orchestral, jazz, pop, and even ethnic marimba music of Africa and Guatemala. Every piece is tailored by the Duo, for the Duo, because there is no other marimba duo playing what Fantasia play. As such, they are a truly unique musical act. They can even arrange your bespoke musical requests and are happy to advise on any aspect of the musical soundtrack to your special event.
