About / Biography

North-London-based pianist and singer.
Over 30 years of gigging experience, 22 in London and about. I have a wide repertoire of famous songs, jazz/swing, blues, pop, Italian, etc, obviously flexible with the client's demands.

I've performed at most of London's top venues, including Ronnie Scott's, The Royal Albert Hall, Boisdale of Belgravia and Canary Wharf, The Jazz Cafe', both The Nightjar cocktail bars, Oriole, Pizza Express Soho, all the Blues Kitchens, Toulouse Lautrec Venue and many more.
Playing classic blues I've appeared at most Blues and Jazz festivals in the UK and Europe (including Notodden in Norway and North Sea Jazz in Holland). Even on 'Later with Jools Holland' on BBC2.
As a "piano bar" all-round entertainer I also played at the renown 'Tonic Piano Bar' in Davos, Switzerland, one of the most prestigious in the world.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

When playing solo all I need is the space of a coffee table and a socket!

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

I can provide a compact but efficient PA (sound system) for live music.

What information do you require about a venue?

Mainly its postcode and if there are parking spaces or restrictions.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

No, I'm not good at that, sorry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

Playing the piano live on BBC2 TV on 'Later with Jools Holland' with the son of legendary Muddy Waters, Jools Holland himself joining on the Hammond organ and while Brian Ferry and Sinead O'Connor were watching us.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

The Beatles, Ray Charles, Elton John, Elvis Presley, Eric Clapton and Jerry Lee Lewis, just to mention six.
My favourite, single artist of all time might be Paul McCartney.
'Hey Jude' is for me probably the greatest song ever recorded.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

My first paid gig was at a camping site in Sardinia, Italy while on holiday as a Uni student in the early 1990s.
Then lots of pubs, bars, restaurants and parties between Rome and Milan, but always as a hobby and playing American and English songs. Since moving to London in 2003 music has become a full-time job, gigging non stop.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

Probably now my favourite type of event is either a relaxed cocktail bar or a private function where you start being kind of background and gradually hold the audience in the palm of your hand and leave them begging for more!

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I/we normally arrive at least one hour before showtime. I'm flexible with performance times but the usual 45' sets with 15' breaks work fine. Usually it's two of those at most venues but can be up to three or even four sometime at private dos or busy piano bars on weekends.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Sure, provided it's a safe and comfortable environment and weather.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I'm always happy to take requests of songs that I know. Less happy if I don't know them! I'm also willing to learn one or two new songs for special events if required.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

I've always had very good words about my performances or my band's from either the venues' managers or private clients. I can proudly say that I'm always among the most booked performers at all the London venues I play regularly and would be happy to share their contacts if you fancy checking yourself.
