East of Eden: We formed in 2001 from a group of friends who enjoyed playing Balkan and klezmer tunes. We were offered a gig opening for Polish band Kroke, enjoyed it and had a good reaction from the crowd and so we kept going. Over the following 15 years we've played hundreds of gigs, made a few line-up changes and had lots of fun — something we try to bring to audiences at every gig.
Rich compelling melodies and tight, driving rhythm, East of Eden take tunes and songs from eastern European folk traditions (and elsewhere) and present them in a lively and accessible form; audiences are often dancing by the end of our show. Our distinctive melodies played on saxophone/flute and laud/mandolin are woven with classically rooted violin harmonies and underpinned by an energetic rhythm section of guitar, bass and djembe.
We play all kinds of venues, from large festival stages to intimate acoustic cafes. Festivals have included Glastonbury, Hay Literature Festival, Upton upon Severn Folk Festival, Ledbury Poetry Festival, Linton Acoustic Roots Festival, Birmingham Arts Fest and Malvern West Fest.
For weddings and social gathering we can also provide circle dancing. Our fiddle player Kimberly is the caller and the dances aimed at beginners, are easy to learn and less energetic than ceilidh dances.

Yes, we’re completely self contained. We bring our own PA system to all of our gigs as well as a simple lighting rig.
We need to know any directions that will help us find the venue and find the right place to load in our equipment.
We can play a music source provided by the customer through the PA.
We normally arrive 2 hours before the performance to set up. We normally perform 2 x 45 minutes but we're happy to fit in with client requirements.
Yes.
We can learn specific songs before the event but we usually limit this to 1 or 2 songs. The clients are welcome to pick a set list from our repertoire or let us choose the music for them.
