Charles Brown is an experienced singer/songwriter/guitarist from Berkshire and his energetic, funky style will have you uncontrollably tapping your feet, clapping your hands and dancing like you wouldn't believe was possible to a solo acoustic artist!
Charles is available for bars, functions and weddings and most regularly plays in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire & Oxfordshire. He is willing to travel further afield for a relevant fuel surcharge.
He also plays in duos or up to as much as a 5/6 piece if the occasion requires something more to get the party started! His band have been playing together for several years now in various different lineups and have performed at weddings and functions a plenty. You can expect soul/funk/pop and country to name but a few genres these guys will throw at you and the 3-part harmonies take the performance to a new level of aural perfection.

Power close to performance area, shelter from sun/rain (if playing outside). 3 x 3 metre area (solo), 1 parking space
Yes, I/we are completely self-contained with our own PA and have a couple of uplighters if required
Simple directions, any additional information that might be useful (for example parking/loading location), food & drink details (whether we can be provided with either/or whilst we are there) and timings in terms of being able to arrive to setup and soundcheck
We can play music from my phone playlist between sets, or can plug in a phone from the client (provided they have a cable that will be able to plug into our setup - Twin phono to whatever the phone connector is)
I played for several years for the Commissioning Ball event at Sandhurst Military Academy. It was an incredible event with several thousand in attendance and is the event that marks the young army cadets becoming officers. I was always very well looked after, they had top level equipment/stage and it really felt like you were a celebrity pop artist (I can only imagine!).
I have been influenced by so many artists over the years - Michael Jackson growing up in the 80's and then the Rock of Queen that my dad used to listen to and the soul music that my mum always listened to! So I have a very varied music palette. It's super difficult to say who my favourite artist is, as I have so many from different times in my life, but I would say Michael Jackson early on, The Levellers and Green Day in my teenage years and then R&B/dance music in my 20's & 30's with Craig David and Usher being 2 of my favourites... Now I'm in my 40's I'm trying to go back in time to discover more soul/motown and always love Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. Greatest song of all time? I'll let you know if I ever discover it!
I was in bands as a guitarist/singer throughout my teenage years and had guitar lessons in my late teens. A few years later I had singing lessons from an Opera singer who used to sing in Carmen in London. Following that, I was writing my own music and traversing the London original music scene until my mid-20's. It was then, whilst on a night out for my sister's 30th, we went into a bar and the musician there had the flu and was ready to pack up and finish... I asked him if he minded if I played a few songs, which he said would help him out. I ended up playing for an hour and the manager booked me to replace that same musician as the resident singer/guitarist from that moment on for the next 2 years! Since then, I have been gigging as a semi-professional alongside a day job and then recently took the plunge to be fully professional musician during the Covid pandemic! Bad timing, but luckily on the otherside, music has picked up where it left off
I love playing at all sorts of events and I personally believe that too much of any type wouldn't be good. For me adapting and changing to fit the event/style of your surroundings and clientele and is all part of the skillset which I love as a musician. It keeps me on my toes and makes every gig/event different!
Arrival 1 hour before the start of performance.
I'm happy to play outside, as long as there is suitable cover from the elements, with a flat level surface and a power supply close to the performance area
I am happy to try to learn specific songs before the event, provided there is enough time to do so. I normally try to limit this to 3 new songs. I am always happy to send across my up to date song list in it's entirety, so that the client can pick a handful of songs, or even point out songs that they don't like, so that I can formulate a set around what I believe the clients' music tastes are. I always try and ask for a measure of trust in this process, as after all I have been doing events and gigs for over 15 years, so have a large amount of experience in what works in certain events/scenarios. I'm always convinced that if the client is willing to work with you, that you can make any event a truly special one for all concerned.
I get a lot of people mentioning Ed Sheeran with regards to me, because I use a loop pedal and create layers and live loops in front of your very eyes! However, I'm so much more than just that and the majority of my clients describe me as having a very diverse selection of songs/genres and delivering them in a very interesting and engaging way, so that they are drawn in to see what is going to happen next!
I can play up to a Maximum of 3 hours playing time. You are welcome to change the playing time to be less than that, but unless it is an extremely local gig, it won't normally make the price any less, as I still have to travel to and from the venue and setup/set-down my equipment (travel & equipment wear and tear). Standard sets tend to be 2 x 45 minutes, or 3 x 45 minutes over a period of 2 and 3 hours respectively.
