A professional oboe and piano duo, based in South Wales. They are a married couple who have released 3 albums of music together. Catherine Tanner-Williams is a freelance oboist who is currently principal oboe of Orchestra de Cymru. Christopher Williams is a staff pianist at the RWCMD, teaches piano at Cardiff University, and is assistant director of the BBC National Chorus of Wales. Both musicians have freelanced the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, English Symphony Orchestra, and Welsh Sinfonia.
If your venue doesn't have a piano, we can bring our own digital piano.
As well as the standard classical music used for weddings, we can arrange special songs or even opera arias for you. Equally at home with Elgar or Elvis! The oboe is a wonderful lyrical instrument which can play songs beautifully; a great alternative to hiring a singer.
We are a flexible ensemble, so for example, you could book us as a duo for the wedding and reception, or just Christopher on piano for the reception, or solo oboe for the ceremony and then a duo for the reception. The oboe sounds fantastic in churches as a solo instrument, where it can play anything from evocative melodies and songs, to baroque or folk music.

Acoustic pianos tuned to no higher than UK standard of A=440Hz please. If the pitch of the venue piano is too high for the oboe to play comfortably in tune with, or the piano is not in tune with itself, we reserve the right to use our own digital piano to give you the best possible quality. If the venue piano is slightly flat in pitch that is not usually a problem.

Set up 1hr before, depending on whether we are using a venue piano or setting up our own. 30 mins to pack up. We can offer contact details of piano hire companies if needed. We require a power source if using our own digital piano.
Subject to being enclosed and sheltered from wind, rain and sun to the sides, rear and above. Subject to a safe outside power source. Oboes are delicate instruments so not suited to playing outside in extreme hot, damp, windy or cold temperatures.
We can arrange up to 2 specific songs if they are not already in our repertoire. Clients are welcome to pick from our set list or let us choose a selection of Beautiful Classical Music
