Formed in 2011, Astro Jazz Project is a professional standard Devon-based jazz trio/quartet/quintet. The band features talented and experienced musicians who are experts at performing low-volume, tasteful jazz for discerning audiences.
The band do not require amplification through a PA. **but do still need power for amps.**
From playing at five star hotels; to touring with jazz stars; Astro Jazz will deliver a stellar performance for your special occasion.
Band leader Ronnie combines drumming with his other life as a podcast producer and journalist. Ronnie is an in-demand session jazz drummer and percussionist with past appearances on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and S4C. He has toured the country with leading British jazz musicians and has performed at the Welsh Proms, the National Eisteddfod and Brecon Jazz Festival.
Guitarist Joss is an alumnus of The National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland and a graduate of the BA Jazz course at Middlesex University.
Double bass player Jim completes the line-up. Jim has played electric and double bass around the world for the past 20 plus years and is one of the most sought-after jazz musicians in the South West. He played professionally in Japan for seven years before touring Australia with the legendary Drifters. Jim has also studied with world-famous jazz bass players in New York.

Since 2011 we have been playing at the region’s most prestigious and well-loved music venues; including: The Flavel, Ashburton Arts, CIC Taunton, Calstock Arts, Duchy Nursery, Ilminster Arts, and St Ives Jazz Club - as well as Cheltenham, Ealing, Plymouth, Marlborough and Teignmouth jazz festivals.
We also host the country’s top jazz musicians during regional tours - and perform at jazz clubs on the professional London jazz circuit.
Standard set durations: 2x 45-60 mins with a 20 min break.
Set up/pack down time: 30 minutes.
We’re happy to play outside but we need:
- power.
- shade/rain protection
- a flat level surface
We don't usually take requests as we have a set repertoire.
