About / Biography

Alice Black is a jazz, swing and soul singer based in London and the South East. Working alongside top musicians, she provides the perfect entertainment for weddings, parties, (including birthdays and Christmas parties), 1920s events (Great Gatsby parties), 1940s events, restaurants and corporate events.

Alice has an extensive repertoire of your favourite jazz, swing, latin, soul and motown standards, including classics by Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye, Dusty Springfield, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Van Morrison, Sarah Vaughan and Peggy Lee and many more. She also has Christmas, 1920s and 40s repertoire for themed events.

Alice works with a range of professional musicians and can provide a duo, trio, quartet or quintet depending on the nature of your event.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Everything is provided. We just need a power supply.


Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, we bring our own PA and lighting - all fully PAT tested


What information do you require about a venue?

We need to know the address, parking and access to the venue (Eg stairs, lift, etc) and the room we will be playing in.


Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes we can play a Spotify playlist between sets and after for an optional disco set (either the clients choice of songs or we can put together something suitable)


How long do you need to set everything up and sound check?

We need about an hour before guests arrive to set up and sound check.

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

We performed for a private function in Norway over a weekend. It was a great atmosphere, fantastic crowd and we loved the sightseeing.


Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Julie London, Dusty Springfield, Amy Whinehouse


What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I started performing 20 years ago with a function band and have since performed all over the country, with big bands and small bands, and with some of the countries finest musicians. We have played for restaurants, weddings, parties, theatres and corporate events.


What's your favourite type of event to play at?

We love playing for weddings and parties when guests are merry and in the mood for dancing.


Can you provide a mixture of song styles?

Yes, we often play dinner jazz followed by one or two livelier sets of 70s classics and Motown hits for people to get up and dance to after their meal.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We usually perform X2 hour long sets or X3 40 minute sets, depending on the nature of your event.
We need about an hour to set up and sound check.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes we have no problem performing outside as long as we have a safe level surface, shelter if rain is likely and a power supply we can access.


Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Clients can choose songs from our extensive repertoire list and request up to around 6 numbers.
