St. Andrew's Day takes place on the 30th of November and is the celebration of the patron saint of Scotland.
While it tends not to see quite the same overt level of celebration as say New Years Eve, It is still a great excuse to book your favourite bands and crack open a bottle of single malt! Just another excuse to book a piper or a ceilidh band!
"Thank you for your lovely singing, it set the tone of the evening perfectly!"

Accomplished, experienced Scottish piper
Steven has been playing the bagpipes since 1984, he started playing when he was only 8 years old. Originally receiving private tuition from Andre Donaldson, father of the legendary Brian Donaldson. He continued his education with the Bowhill and Seafield Pipe Band, in which time he helped the band to a World and British Championships (Grade 4) coming through the ranks. He also emerged on the solo scene under the watchful eye of Wullie Smart who he cites as the major influence of his Piping career.
Celtic groups can bring a truly authentic feel to your celebrations (whether you're in scotland or not!), while Ceilidh Bands are sure to have the entire audience up and dancing in no time at all. Ceilidh Bands will often be accompanied by a "Caller" someone who instructs the audiences in the traditional dances that go along with the music.
Fancy a louder celebration? Take a look at LMM's listings of party bands if you are after big singalong classics, dance floor fillers or anything else! Just remember, if you have any particular scottish-themed requests, make sure you speak to the band in advance.
If you are looking for another more traditional way to celebrate the feast of St Andrew, take a look though the list of pipers to bring a true scottish atmosphere to proceedings. In full traditional attire, pipers can serenade you, pose for photos and facilitate the appreciation of a good single malt!
Try to book by the end of July. Remember, as with any celebration day with a strong theme, there will be an impact upon the availability of bands.
Scottish and Celtic acts will probably be busier on this day than others, so as soon as you have confirmed your plans, make an inquiry with whoever you want to provide the entertainment.
Don't feel compelled to only book Scottish acts on St Andrew's day... Chances are English or Welsh bands can pull off a pretty good rendition of "500 Miles" as well!
Pipers charge from £285, Ceilidh Bands from £795 (all include a caller).
St Andrew was a Galilean fisherman before he and his brothers Simon and Peter became disciples of Jesus Christ. He was crucified by the Romans on an X shaped cross (seen upon Scotland's national flag), and his remains ended up in southern Italy, where they lie to this day.
According to legend, a monk known as St Rule was ordered to take some relics of Andrew "to the ends of the earth" for safe keeping. After a long sea voyage, he eventually came ashore on the coast of Fife, at a settlement now know as St. Andrews.
St Andrew was first recognised as the patron saint of Scotland in 1320, and November 30th see's many scots celebrate the "feast day of St Andrew".
