Last Minute Musicians review: The John Adams Band

Here at Last Minute Musicians, we love to shine a light on some of our favourite acts on the directory. Today, it’s the turn of the fantastic act, The John Adams Band.

Who are they?

TJAB are an excellent 4-piece festival/party band, lead by the stunning vocals of the man himself – John Adams.

In their standard line up, they consist of drums, bass, keys and acoustic guitar but, being the talented multi-instrumentalists that they are, they can swap around based on what the song arrangement dictates, meaning they can include additional percussion… and even the ukulele!

Alongside Adams’ excellent lead vocal, many other members of the band are also brilliant singers, and this allows them to create wonderful harmonies, deepening the sound even further.

Based in Aberdare, they travel the country to play at all sorts of events, from Tipi wedding receptions, to supporting big name acts, like T’pau.

What do they do?

In their biography, TJAB describe John Adams as “a mix of Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and James Morrison with a reach in his tone to match James Blunt and James Bay” and, frankly, we couldn’t put it any better ourselves.

The band predominantly does a fantastic mix of pop hits, rearranged into a festival/acoustic style. Whether it’s Whitney Houston’s classic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”, Damien Rice’s wonderful ballad “Cannonball” or even the insanely catchy “Cotton Eyed Joe”, this band aren’t afraid to take on any genre of music, and make it their own.

Whether you’re looking for a band to give you a relaxed and chilled out event, or pack out the dance floor for an exceptional party, these guys have you covered.

The John Adams Band

What do we think?

The John Adams Band are right at the front of a really popular new trend in live music for events – the festival band. Right around the country, brides and grooms-to-be are opting to ditch the black-tie, and don some wellington boots in favour of the “WedFest”.

These are usually festival themed events, with lots of food, drink, dancing and, of course… music! If you’re looking to add a touch of that Glastonbury magic to your event, then The John Adams Band will be absolutely perfect.

We love the combination of their intricate harmonies and sing – along anthems, taking songs that you know and love, and putting their own spin on them.

This makes for a truly unique experience that you are unlikely to get by booking any other band.

The option for a duo set up also makes them really versatile – perfect for daytime wedding entertainment or for smaller, more intimate events.

What do their clients think about them?

We are so glad we found John and the band and asked them to play at our wedding! They completely made the night at our tipi wedding reception in the forest and fitted into the laid back festival/party atmosphere just perfectly. John spoke to us on numerous occasions before our big day; the organisation seemed so easy and all went according to plan. They even caught some videos of everyone dancing the night away which have given us some great memories! Everyone has been talking about the band and how brilliant they were, a perfect mix of music with a bit of a difference! Thanks to John and the band for making our wedding so incredible.

Becky and Sean (Wedding)

Unknown to me before the performance, John and his instrumental companions produced a wonderful prelude to the well known band, T’Pau. John has a very melodic voice and performs his songs with great feeling and passion. I think that it is fair to say that he was a great surprise to the audience and very enthusiastically appreciated. How lucky we are in Britain to have such a wealth of talent and how lucky for Bewdley and Worcestershire that we have such a depth of people with musical connections who can bring such acts to this small town. Not forgetting the army of volunteers who enthusiastically assist in the organisation and smooth running of events. Well done Bewdley!

Craig (Bewdley Festival)

I booked John to sing at my 40th birthday BBQ and he completely exceeded my expectations. He took requests from all my guests and sang everybody’s favourite songs. He even did some Disney for my neice. After his set he stayed for some food and fitted in like part of the family. We enjoyed his cheeky personality as much as his music and if i’m completely honest I think I have developed a bit of a crush. HAHA!
